I spent ages attempting to drill chisel - this is about a couple of hours.. SDS or coring the little 2Kg 3.2J Bosch found it difficult.. this concrete is hard
So a quick trip today, picked up a breaker ?50 off and the last in the shop..
30 minutes learning how it works and we're cooking... 49J and the mrs could hear it in the house - a good 20m away.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

Round two - started on the other side. I'm not that fit atm, 25kg+ is a tough thing to repeated lift and move around and hold whilst it's hammering away. Will get there I've liquidized the concrete slab - a small section under the pipes needs breaking but that will be a 10 minute job at a later stage. Next step is to dig out, core the foundation to get the pipes through - I'll need to make the holes a little bigger than the pipes just incase there's any ground movement but silicon seal the pipe to stop ants and water coming through.
The rows of holes I SDSed first are great, they help guide the cracking nicely.
I'll be happy if I have the garage dug out by new year and be a little fitter14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

Snow. And the Draco controller has died again. Not worth turning the area into a muddy quagmire getting to the garage.
Still it's 2021, so once the snow has cleared I'll be back on it. I think I'll also be looking at getting some hired help in (bricky) to lay the base and get the blocks done. Just getting to the point I want to get it done.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

Is your controller mounted outside or undercover.

The controller is back in action (brand new V2 replacement).
So I've contacted three companies over the weekend, sent photos and one is coming to have a look on Tuesday pm. The project is dragging as a spare time project and getting someone in full-time that specialises in pond work should get the thing finished this year.
I think it's an attractive project - it's got a lot of the hard graft on the dig done, although some remains, it would be a grand demonstration project given the complexities.
Wife happier that there's going to be some expected progress too14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

So the guy that quoted £8K has, after I asked deep questions in to the lack of flow coat wax etc, decided I'm not a sap.
So far the only company that has responded has quoted.. so far.. £1K for the upfront consultancy and £35K for the pond as an initial figure... yes.. thirty five thousand.. what do they think the pound is made of? Marshmallows?
So it's looking like this will be a long summer of me doing some hard graft again.. brickies can't be bothered, nor landscapers.. just seems there's too much easy work out there.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

So have a guy coming around tomorrow, rough figure could be between 16-20K based on the photos. The mrs went slightly ballistic saying that had she known the cost at the start she would have said no and we'd have sold the fish.. so I'm a little in the dog house on that one.. although I think this should less given excavation and filter materials are here. So let's see what tomorrow brings!

Progress update Well I now have some additional time after being let go from work - so between hunting for a new job, I will be pushing this forward.
I've already got an interested fibreglasser, now just want to sort out someone that has some skills in slab and blocks which is in progress.
I have about 8 weeks to sort it all out, so bring on the hard graft14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

Thanks arm, abs, gaz.
I have talked it through with two local builders (slab and block) yesterday and they seemed interested. One is in walking distance if that's not local enough.. I'm just hoping that they're interested and I can get the blocks & concrete.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

The project is almost breaking me mentally. I'm close to calling it a day, closing up both the existing and the current sized hole. Selling the filters, pipework and the fish.
I have to clear the garden really - the last couple of weeks first of torrential rain then blazing sun and heat has caused a mass growth.
I may have found a brickie - the main issue is simply cement (both pour and 7.3N blocks which are.. you guess it - made of cement). He's meant to come around tonight and have a look but.. 30 mins late atm..14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
