Hope that pipe ends up being the solution Bazza.
By dropping it to just below that pipe and waiting a few days you could eliminate all the other lower return pipes from the equation.

    Evening all. Update time!

right firstly the leak(s). So we uncovered the heat pump pipes, no sign of any leaks. However as we got to the pond end we discovered water coming through the light fitting. So we dropped the water level (actually I have a video of us transferring the water to the pool - I’ll upload that as it’s a proper lash up!) and then took the light cover off. Turns out the sparky must have missed the grommet for the cable rear exit! So that was sealed with sealant and left to set. We also took the opportunity to put another layer of silicon at the bottom of the glass to be sure that this is sealed.

Last week we got all the drums in place and finished off most of the pipework excluding the air returns. We also have the drum waste to do, more in that in a future post.

I then raised the water level again and for the first time we took the level over the skimmers and discovered another leak! This one was pretty obvious though as it was gushing out. Basically the 4” that we put into the bottom of the skimmer have been knocked and pulled down as we have (for the third or fourth time) had to dig out the sump pump well next to the pond filter pit!!! This time, the bloody sump pipe has been dug another 18” lower and set on a fresh slab so that it doesn’t lift and let shingle in underneath and jam the pump! Grrr.

Tomorrow we should be bringing the water level back up into the skimmers to retest that. Hopefully we will get a few more bits sorted and then I just need to sort out building my airlifts. I have however got the air pump for the bottom drains running at around 10-15 lpm each (if the regulators are accurate) off of 1 hi-blow xp80.

The whole garden is a bloody muddy mess and it shows as some stuff is getting messy, but it will come good soon!

We’ve managed to get the area around the pool all prepared with type 1 for the rubber crumb flooring but have decided to leave that until spring as it can’t be laid when there is a frost and it’s a lot of money to waste on poor laying conditions, besides it will probably only get dirty anyways.

The electricians have connected up the lighting circuits that we have in place so far, probably about half of them and I’m really pleased with them. We’ve also got all the pool filtration in place and running so the pool is coming along nicely. The cover was delivered fairly recently so work will begin on that soon, the sunken pit to hide it has already been built in place.

So anyway here’s the video, grab yourself a cuppa it’s 16 minutes of waffle and there’s also a follow up video showing a sneak peek at the “Never Ending Project” by night!!!

Fire away with any questions or feedback. And before you say, I know the filter room is cramped!!!

Glad to see you've been able to overcome the hurdles bazza.

There's nothing worse than putting all that hard work into building a watertight pond only to find it leaks.

Looks like a fully working pond is not far off now.

Right, had some fun over the last two days...

Basically finished all the plumbing, resolved the various leaks, leaving just one...

So, leak wise, we have had issues with the Certikin skimmers leaking on the joint to the extension throat. Not sure what we have done wrong here, but two of the three skimmers have leaked on the join, I'm wondering if they have moved when the concrete was poured. We've already fixed one, the second wasn't obvious because we had such a bad leak where the pipe had been knocked as per the last video. So we are going to put sealant on that one and whilst the water level had dropped, going to do the third one in case it is potentially going to leak...

We've also had some real difficulty tightening some of the 4" ball valves sufficiently, had to purchase a strap wrench to get enough purchase on them to tighten them up properly. They seem to be sorted now, but we still have a leak which looks like its coming from one of the seven 4" valves on one of the skimmer lines to the leaf basket. Having spent a long time on the valves (quite a few were weeping), we have now identified that there is water coming through the flange fitting on one of the leaf basket entry points. So that will get some attention as well.

So this will leave just the one leak, in the glass, which I feel is responsible for the last of the water loss in the pond level. Previously I felt this was only a weep, and was going to leave it until the spring/summer to resolve. However, having cleared the lower patio and swept away the excess water into the drain, it's quite obvious that more water is coming through than originally thought judging by the way the patio is covered in water throughout the day. It's difficult to tell at this time because the ground is wet anyway and there is a drain in the lower patio, but it hasn't rained on some days and yet there are some significant puddles forming. We've spent some time looking over the glass and sealant and are finding evidence not only of the originally seen water seep, but if we apply pressure to the seal in the glass channel that water can come through. It would seem that although the seal has formed well and bonded to the glass, that it may not have bonded to the stainless steel supports that we had made.

The fibreglass installer was adamant that the sealer we should use was HA-6 as it is used to not just seal glass but also to stick aquarium glass structures together. However, having now read the specifications a bit closer, it will not bond to un-primed metal, which of course our stainless steel is. So now, we are not only looking at a minor repair, but a remove and replace operation.

Originally I was going to go with Gold Label, and was going to this time, however, I cannot see anything in any documentation on Gold Label that states it can be used on metals (primed or otherwise) although I am fairly certain it would be ok. So we have chosen a similar product, CT1, which has very similar specifications regarding toxicity / isocyanate etc. and is food grade, so have ordered 18 tubes of that (yes 18, 3 per side per pane of glass) at a cost of £200!

So this evening I've dumped about 30k+ litres of water so we only have about half a meter of water in the pond now. On Friday we will be removing the 3 glass panes (god knows how much fun that is going to be), cleaning them back and then refitting them with the CT1 and leaving for probably 4-5 days to cure as it takes 24 hours per 2mm of thickness and we have 45mm channels and the glass is 31.5mm thick, so around 9mm each side of the glass.

It will be interesting to see how well the HA6 sealant has bonded to the steel frame when we remove it. I'll get some pictures / video.

I used Tec7 sealant on my window. Had a small leak initially, but did a reseal in a couple of places and it's fine now. My window is fixed to fibreglass on top of a galvanised frame.

It's also fish safe when cured.

Edit: fishing line should help cut through the sealant to remove the windows. That will be the easy bit. Cleaning off the old sealant will be a bit of a bugger.
