This stuff mate, good luck with the fibreglassing, weather ain't good for pond builds at the minute, looks like I'll have to put my plumbing off till it drys out..
My glass arrived the other night but was chucking down, so didn't get fitted

I’d go gold label Bazza and plenty of it. Used in my pond 5 years ago and no probs
Cheers

Right peeps. I have to say, the water table is playing havoc with my fibreglassing progress...
But today, we got a step closer.... The filter area is fibreglassed although we are getting a tiny weep, but that’s not an issue as this area is designed to be a pit for collecting waste that is then pumped away. The main pond is sealed, however today we dumped the 6” layer of water holding the fibreglassing down only to discover that we have water pushing through underneath AGAIN!!! However, the fibreglass is holding nicely, so it’s had another thick coat of flow coat to finish it nicely and add an extra layer of seal. It needs water pressure back on top of it to push the water below back out and outside the pond structure... to that end I am going to start a partial fill tonight once I check the flow coat has definitely gone off.
We do still have an issue with the bio chamber though which has been fibreglassed but it’s still leaking in through the bottom of the pit despite there being no penetrations near the bottom of this section, it’s just coming up through the bloody slab! We’ve tried a couple of products, one which has fixed our problems elsewhere “Lamposilex” doesn’t seem to be working here. So I’ve got tomorrow and Wednesday to come up with a solution as the fibreglasser is back to give that piece one last crack and finish it off. I can fill the pond largely without this as I can cap water flow elsewhere, but the glass isn’t in yet so we can’t put too much in. I’m hoping to get the glass in tomorrow too but that will need time to go off. Busy few days but hopefully get some water in soon!!!

Sounds like you’re having fun, luckily water table was.a non issue on this pond build but had some difficulties in the past and it can do your head in! Sure you’ll crack it, an ambitious build on this scale is bound to have challenges to overcome

Just going over some options with the guys. One of my friends is an ex landscaper who is here working on the planting, but his last job was civils and drainage so he has experience. We’re looking at putting a silo well at the side of the pond structure to create an easy escape for the water table and pump it away from there to relieve any pressure on the pond base.

You have that high a water table? Can’t tank it or something?

It's looking that way...
We had an aweful time digging the pool out Jan-Feb time, but we kind of expected the ground to be wet, plus we discovered the garage roof gutters were all plumbed to a soak away where the pool was going that we removed and re-piped.
When I dug the pond in April (same depth), there was no sign of water table, so I'm still somewhat unsure.
However, it's fairly evident from the amount of water seepage into the bottom of the pond (which has lifted the fibreglassing on the floor twice now in the main pond as well as continuously chasing it around the filter pit and bio chamber) that the water table must be higher and that maybe in April it was dried out for some reason??? The weather has been pretty reasonable over the summer months, so I wouldn't have expected much additional water during this time.
There is a ditch on the road across the front of our property, it does have a small amount of water in it currently from memory. I'm going to re-check tomorrow in the day light to verify if there is any indication of water level there.
We're seeing the exact same problem in the pool balance tank, however, we have opened the ground up to the side of this yesterday and the water that was ballooned under the fibreglass in the floor of this tank has now dissipated and there is a "level" of water sitting in the open void on the outside of this structure. We've pumped it all away, but you can see the water running back in from the ground from the direction of the pool (the balance tank is about 2 meters away from the pool). There are no underground services anywhere in these areas, so we haven't penetrated anything to our knowledge, other than garden hose outlets that have been capped / removed. The void fills to a certain level over time and then stops.
At the moment, it seems that we will need to create a sump to the side of the pond structure to provide an easy escape for any excess ground water, and fit this with a float activated pump so that when the water level increases above the usual water table level that it is moved away. This in theory will alleviate any pressure below the pond etc as there is an easier route for the water to take. I'm awaiting some further investigations / discussions that the civil engineer friend of mine is having (hopefully tonight) to see if this is our best option.
In any case, I've shoved 6000 litres of water into the pond to apply some pressure to the surface of the fibreglass floor, it's only about 6 inches deep currently, but it seems to have reduced the ballooning underfoot by about 60-70% already. Plan is to leave it like this for the minute while we get further answers / options.
We also put the glass in today, well initial installation only, we put some packers under the bottom edge and a large beam of sealant and also packers to centralise the glass in the u channel sides. The sides have then been secured with a small amount of sealant so that the packers can be removed once set and then the larger beads of sealant applied. We're thinking of applying 2-4 beads of sealant on each side in separate passes with time allowed for curing so that we have multiple layers of seal.
I'm also going to start putting the filter room pipework into place now that this is all fibreglassed, albeit puddles in the bottom!
Feeling a bit mixed at the moment. We could just plough on and fill the damn thing, but I'm pretty sure it will come back and bite me in the butt at some stage, so best to make more holes and fix it before we put the finishing touches in and have to rip that lot out in the future.... Never easy is it!

Best laid plans and all that, I was tempted to throw it all in a couple of times on my build but grit my teeth, forgot about it over Christmas and started again, was fortunate to have a good guy on the fibreglass but it was a ball breaker at times, now I’m on the home stretch I absolutely love what I’ve got, big dreams mean big problems but huge pay offs in the end, watching your build the pay off will be amazing

Thanks DJ.
chucking it in hadn’t crossed my mind yet, I think we’re too deep in! But it really does p££ me off at times when you think you should make good progress one week and find yourself in no mans land!

Tough times bud, but you’ll get through it - I think our builds started at about the same time and I’m still messing about with mine also before I finish it off!
My garden relandscape and pond build isn’t anywhere near the size of your project, but I’ve taken just as long

GadgetBazza finally builds his pond!
Agreed with Freddy - you’ve got plenty of time once it’s done to enjoy it. How’s the time to get it right, so it’s built to last
