A couple of picture updates over the last couple of days. Not much change on the pond, until tomorrow when the fibreglassing starts.
A quick picture from upstairs... It looks like a mushroom!

Steel fabricator turned up with a template for the posts and channels for the glass. In this picture he is just removing the back of the template so that it fits between the wall. I don't appear to have taken a picture of it in place, but it doesn't all line up! Well that's the purpose of it really. Fortunately the two pieces could be adjusted to fit, but they didn't join together. New lines were drawn on the templates in situ to record the proper relationship so that the channels can be welded at the correct angles on the posts at the factory. They are due back on Wednesday next week with the finished articles!

Fibreglassing was supposed to start today but it rained overnight! Should've thought it about it yesterday and covered it in advance, but here it is today with a large marque roof covering it. We also pumped out the water and put a gas powered space heater in there today in the hope that when the fibreglassed returns tomorrow he will be able to make a start.

And finally, starting to put some finishing touches in the garden. This is the side of the garage past the end of the swimming pool which has recently had drainage installed against the garage walls (the patio was very close to the damp course level) and the patio taken up and re-laid to create the correct fall as well as access to the rear workshop doors. The drains are also laid along the flower bed all down the side of the pool. We also dug a channel for the drainage and started to run this back towards the rainwater harvesting tank. In addition, we put the hydraulic hoses in a duct from the garage to where the swim jet will be in the pool so that its all nicely tucked away.

As you can see, still raining, due rain again tomorrow, but really hoping we can get the fibreglassing started...

Just caught up with your build, you really have an amazing plot, a great plan and are doing a superb job Bazza.
Looking forward to seeing it progress over the summer.
Are you related to ndwgolf in Thailand by any chance as he also seems to plan ahead and know what he is doing!Last edited by 0765peter; 09-07-2020 at 08:15 AM. Reason: Mistaken identity

Thanks Peter!
no relation but I will go off and see what he’s been up to!
Despite lots of planning, thinking and re-planning, it still doesn’t always go to plan!

That looks like an amazing project, well done for having the balls to tackle such a huge project. Makes my pond look like a puddle! I know it's not really the done thing to talk about budgets but I'm dying to know. My guess is Ł50k - am I anywhere near?

If you’re talking about the pond only, then possibly.
i took this on because I thought all the landscaping pricing we were getting were ridiculous, but I’m learning that groundwork’s are crazy expensive in time and materials.
i don’t mind putting a rough guide together later on. In fact I think somewhere I already summoned the costs of the structure itself.

For those wanting an update on the fibreglassing. After yesterday’s rain off, today was met with the fresh render sucking up too much. So it’s been primed today and left ready for tomorrow. So another slight delay but all done in the interests of doing it right.

Just caught up on your thread - we’re at a very similar stage now! My god building a pond and doing a full re-landscape is a big old job isn’t it!
Looking great, bet you can wait for it all the back filled and levelled out - it’s a very good feeling when it happens! My pond is having the window fitted and fibre glassed this coming Wednesday (weather permitting )

Hi all, time for another update. I took this towards the end of last week, but only just got round to uploading it. Having testing times with water issues and fibreglass issues, but they will get fixed!
On the up side, we do finally have one small section of the garden finished as we have a new arrival.
