Forgot to mention in the video that we've had a little hold up this week because we ran out of steel Tuesday morning. Had to beg the suppliers to get me some ready for Wednesday and arrange pickup so that work could carry on again today.
I think the guys were glad of the break from the heat though!
Going to need to hang a sail over the top of this I think as it gets so much sun... Might be able to take it back down once we get a decent amount of tree growth in a few years.

I need your opinions guys and gals regarding skimmer placement.
On the diagram I have shown 4 skimmers, two near the filter pit (to the right of the hanging bed in the drawing which is actually further to the left in reality), and two nearer to the glass.
The 4 black arrows indicate where the 4" air lift returns will be which will be near to surface level. The 4 blue arrows are 2" returns at a mid level which will be pumped and hopefully only in low flow usage if the air lifts pans out, but give me the option to run without air lifts in the winter if this is chilling the pond. It also gives me the ability to increase turnover if needed.
So the question is, where to place the two 4" skimmers that I have?
- Option 1: On the wall near the filter pit (easier and cheaper to plumb)
- Option 2: Wider apart near the ends and the glass?
The expected water flow is marked by the two green arrows, as you can see, they should end up pushing towards the two skimmers at the back wall by the filter pit.
Originally I was thinking between of the ones nearer the glass as they cover a wider area, but wondering with the projected water flow which is two opposing directions that should result in water travelling from the glass front towards the back wall at the end of it's travel and that maybe the skimmers would be best there?

No votes either way peeps? I need to make a decision Tuesday morning ideally and place the skimmers in the walls and order pipework accordingly.

On my pond the skimmer has really good “pull” however, it still only drags debris easily from around 3.5m. After that, not so much. I have a definite deadish zone outside that which makes it a handy place to feed the fish. It doesn’t seem to matter which direction I point my airlift in, it’s still the same.
I’d probably place them to give maximum radius at quarter points along the wall nearest the drum.

Have you took into consideration how the winds most of the year blows into the pond
As this effects the skimmers performance.
Your pond is in a very open space lol
My skimmer is above my mid returns.
With a round pond. I get full circulation.
The two in the bottom of the diagram look to close for me.

Thanks chaps.
with regard to wind, this place gets loads of it as we are a little elevated and out in the open. And that’s in addition to my own contributions.
Had a chat with Gaz at Aurora and we agreed on three skimmers, assuming the glass is at 6 o’clock on a circle, we will put skimmers at 9, 12 and 3 or thereabouts.
Ive got a little video update for you as usual. Progress on the pond has been ok this week once we got the extra steel in. We did waste a fair bit of time repositioning the curved walls for the sunken seating area 5 times before I finally settled on it!!!
Pool progress hasn’t been as promising, seems they used most of the waterproofing materials on the walls and overflow drains and when they came to the floor ran out and it takes a few days to get the damn stuff!!!
Anyhow, video link below, apologies for my droning tone!

Thanks chaps. I have a habit of being "in for a penny, in for a pound"! I had plans on the garden when we bought the place 4 years ago, but an unexpected flood shortly after we moved in put that on hold for a while. Designs were formulated over about 12-18 months, in fact it was handy in a way that we didn't just plough straight in when we bought the place as it allowed us time to learn the characteristics of the property.
I did have some renders done as part of the design work, you can see these on post #24. I have a ton more including some nighttime ones if you want to see them.
Aiming for concrete to go in the walls on Monday hopefully.
