What an incredible build. Going to look amazing for sure.
How are you going to work the drainage for the sunken seating area by the pond window?

Thanks,
There will be a drain in the sunken seating area taken around the edge of the pond walls below ground to the sump in the filter pit which is below the four poster hammock thingy.
The sump in there will be float activated pump to lift the water away to our rainwater harvester tanks which overflow to the ditches.
That’s the plan anyway!!!

I’m not sure I could cope with just a visit, I’m thinking a couple of weeks self isolating in your shed would be much better

Lol.
I quite like the shed/workshop myself! Bit chilly out there though.
There’s a wardrobe and chest of drawers out there. Probably be a tea counter soon too! )
Made the bottom layer of ICF walls for the pond on the driveway and had a play with the shape. Looks like I need to make the hole in the ground a bit wider yet.
Cleared away another chunk of the dirt from around the hole, but it was slow going as I can’t get a dumper currently as no-one is renting out.
Also had knock backs on the pool as I can’t get hardcore delivered or concrete poured at the moment...
Have now resorted to smashing up the large pile out the front of the house and moving it back to the garden to fill the pool (shallow end) and then the footing of the pond.

Hey guys,
So I'm trying to source some drains and pipework for the bottom of the pond... If only I had these ordered up front already. Tried JBR, they are closed unfortunately (but understandably), so will be on the search for bits today...
Firstly though, help me with a conundrum. Initially my thoughts for the pond were three or four bottom drains, two skimmers. However, I keep looking at the drawing and the hole thinking that three bottom drains should be enough. But the thought of three is messing with my brain because I was going to go for two drums, with two drains and a skimmer into each.... Wondering now whether I can go down to three bottom drains, two skimmers and put the two skimmers with one bottom drain into one drum and the other two drains into the other drum, or try and find a suitably large drum to put all five into one, probably need something in the region of a 65k - 75k drum though for that. Also, I was thinking of going aerated, but thinking 4 would end up being like a bubble bath down there and that three, with just the two outer ones having air through them being idea. I would probably get all the drains as aerated regardless so that when needed I can dump extra air through.
I've attached an image below to help you see the shape / sizes. The original measurements are on there, it's going to be a smidge bigger, about 10m long inside the walls and approx 4m on the width inside the walls. Thoughts please? Need to get ordering soon...

I'd prefer 2 drums, with either set-up you mentioned, best to overkill.
Are they airated bottom drains? try and picture how it'll look with the air on, space them out nicely

At 10m long and using 4 drains there will be a 2.5m gap between drains, and 1.25m between the end drains and walls.
Using 3 drains they would be 3.33m apart and 1.66 at the ends.
Will 4 drains using the spacing I mention above look too close do you think?
They will be aerated. In my mind having a central one feels like it would look better, but on reflection probably doesn’t matter either way. I’ll run the air feeds for all back to the plant room so they can be controlled on a manifold individually.

GadgetBazza finally builds his pond!
I’d probably go for more rather than less.
You’d struggle to put an extra one if you felt it needed it after and you can never have too many.
I regret not putting in another despite being advised strongly to.

Couple of pics of updates on the pool front. Here you can see we have created the shallow end of the pool and also added 100mm of insulation and pool drains. Then topped with more reinforcing steel mesh, and formed steps, ready for a 150mm layer of concrete that's being delivered this week.

And then some plans for the filtration... This will be built in a pit area underneath the hanging bed to the rear of the pond, opposite the glass window on the overall plans...
First drawing is top down, pond to the bottom, two drums, each fed from two drains and a skimmer. Outputting into self constructed bio chamber which will be 2.5m x 1.25 on the surface and approx 1.8m tall, so total of around 5,500 litres. Water will be returned from these hopefully using 4 x 4" air lifts to the surface level of the pond.
Pumped returns to the lower level of the pond will also be added and depending on how well the pond cleans itself using the airlifts, operated on a schedule.
I am looking to operate this on a battery system, whereby power from my solar is stored into leisure batteries and then used when there is insufficient solar gain to run the pond, hence the use of air pumps and limited use of normal pumps. This will be a bit of a work in progress after the pond is up and running.
The second picture is the side aspect, the depth is created a) to provide the depth required for the air lift returns and b) to provide a larger bio chamber.
I will still investigating bio options, primary thoughts are moving bed k1, but I am also reading up on anoxic. I've not planned any showers currently as I don't have any obvious options to create the height required to drop the water without putting something above ground level which at this point I don't want to do.
There will be a 500mm x 500mm sump / well in the middle of the pit, allowing me to dump water from the bio chamber if it requires cleaning, I will add drain channels and a valve to facilitate this. In addition, I will put a floor drain in the higher pit where the drums are which will drop to the sump to mop up any spills in this area. The drum waste output will be plumbed to the floor drain also providing an efficient flow of waste removal.
Lastly, the sunken seating area from the other side of the pond will have a drain to prevent water from laying in it which will be run around the edge of the pond and brought to this sump below the upper pit level.
The sump will be fitted with float activated pumps to remove the water and move it to our rainwater harvesting tanks which will be used to water the garden.

I'm hoping to mark this area out this week and get started on it so that I can check this all over.
