So here is my build thread. I started digging the pond by hand in April 2019. The first pic was mid drought last summer.

Just need to enclose the filter bay with a wall and decide how to finish the outside of the pond, and then the rest of the garden can follow

Thank you, it’s 3000 gallons. I done all the digging myself by hand which is what took the most time!filling a barrow then taking it round the front of the house and repeating is very time consuming as I couldn’t get a mini digger in and even so still had to move the soil. I had friends help with the concrete and blocks then I put all the finishing touches in to get it ready for fibreglassing etc. I started out with the aim of having a nice pond for a reasonable amount and ended up going all in haha

Thanks mate, it’s a great feeling now it’s running especially after the little leaks and what not! I still expect to come home from work and the whole thing has collapsed or something ridiculous though lol

Well it seems you have got it right first time
I have a lot of regrets with mine now.. not even a year in and already planning a new pond.

I did all of mine myself but is not blocked and glassed. I have sleepers above ground and a liner.

Is it a simple job to do the fibreglass as a diy?

Looks great. I don't envy you moving all that spoil yourself by hand!

It's very similar to how I doing [trying to do] mine. May I ask what make/model your skimmer is please?

its just a wide mouth skimmer, I don't know the brand as I got it second hand off someone but identical to all the skimmers I have seen in shops etc.
The soil is still in my front garden I need to get a grab lorry in to move it all! It wasn't only the soil though, the day before we done the block work all the materials arrived, so upon arriving at home at 18:30, I had to move 435 18kg blocks, 20 25kg bags of cement and 2 tonne bags of sand to the back garden ready for the morning With just a wheelbarrow and myself it was rather punishing

Internal dimensions are 3.20 x 2.30 x 1.95m. The glass was 1800mm x 670mm with about 10cm overlap all round.

In regards to maturing the filters I will be getting some small mirror Carp around the 1-2lb mark over the next few weeks and use them to mature the filter then think about stocking koi come spring time. As a fisherman I love my carp and originally didn't actually plan to keep many koi but then the bug bit me.....
