Connecting it all up
Hey guys I’m looking at making my moving bed but may have hit a wall straight away il attach sum pictures which will show what I mean I have purchased a 100l water tank but it steps down on the sides as can be seen in the pictures. I’m looking at getting the flanges but realised i haven’t got much room to work with. I’m buying a stand along Draco drum solem 16 which has 4”outlets so il asuming il have to have a 4” dropping down to (hopefully if it fits) a 3”. Reason I say if it fits is I only have just over 12cm to work with but am aware I could slightly trim back the flange to make it fit but then fun the risk of not havnt a large seal area... if that makes sense. Please see below pics of what I’m working with and what I want the inside to be like! Cheers IMG_9152.JPGIMG_9153.JPGIMG_9157.JPGIMG_9156.JPG

Oooooh schoolboy error. I have made the same slip up myself in the past.
Solutions....
1) Get different containers.
2) Just go with 4 inch and use a LOT of sealant (not ideal if it is under pressure)
3 Flow into the top or bottom of the tank.
4) Step the connection from 4 inch to 2 inch (or 3 inch if it will fit)
I dont have a drum yet so i might be talking absolute nonsense here but if you go with option 3, make sure you wont cause anything to overflow in the drum. To make this less likely to happen, you could consider....
5) Teeing the 4 inch pipe then stepping down to 3 or 2 inch. Or even putting a T after the T giving you 3 inputs (because 2 x 2 inch pipes wont flow as much as 1 x 4 inch)

Its essentially a 25 gallon cold water storage tank.
There available with flat sides.
If you reduce the pipe diameter you are still limited to the height being within one of the flat areas.

The lids are sold separately

Yeah that’s what I have gone with for now mate but they guy at koi logic said I can always have 4” going into a t then having a elbow at the end with to adaptores going down to 2” flanges if needed. Il have a lil play and see how it all works out! Cheers mate!

Thought I would post this incase anyone else had similar issue. As I don’t have a large enough service area for the 4” connector into moving bed I’m opting for 2 2inches in which I’m going to use a reducing t peice and a reducing rubber connector! Had a look and this is the cheapest option. Got to use what I already have as ordered the tank few months back. See attached pictures of how I’m doing it... IMG_9188.JPGIMG_9186.JPGIMG_9183.JPG

If it was me Charco I would fit the 4ins tank connecter, with 5ins to play with you would get it ok use plenty of silicon and roughened up the plastic a bit.

I can’t mate the tank hasn’t got the service area to do so. So that’s why I was opting for two 2”... that said I spoke to a guy today who said drums are a f-Ing nightmare and to go with a sieve and bead filter. I got to be honest once again I feel like jacking the hole thing it! Gets on my nerves the lot of this pain in the arse big time

Maybe I am not with you Charco, you say you havnt got the service area to fit a 4ins connecter but your tape measure shows 5ins so maybe I am missing something?
As for the Draco,I have the stand alone 25 and it is the best bit of kit I have ever bought for my pond, dont know about beads etc but drums are the way to go.John

Yeah but with the tank connector it just won’t fit. And I want it to look neat so that’s why I opted for the 2 2” but when I went to order the t piece today the guy shot down those Draco’s big time said he got all of them taken off he’s ponds constant troubles and he said that the 2 2” tank connectors would be a huge pain in the arse along side the drum trying to even flow.... sounds like one huge headache. Think I’m guna forget the hole thing for a while. Just frustrating.

Cant get my head round why a 4ins tank connecter wont fit, doesn't matter if a couple of the screws dont line up,on the Inside just trim the plate to fit as long as you have plenty of silicone.

Dont blame you mate, better to take your time and have a good think about it than do something you later regret.
