    fibreglassing over insulation

    Hello all,
My pond is at the stage where it is very close to being ready to fibreglass, all that remains to do is slope around the bottom corners in so that there isn't any 90 degree corners for crap to gather in, and cut the frame in the insulation for the window to sit in.
I was going to use some 5cm wide strips of the left over insulation to do the bottom corners into slopes like I have for the upright corners, although my only worry is the water pressure crushing them.
I have seen plenty of people do it this way however so am I right in assuming that the fibreglass once set will be strong enough to hold the shape and I am basically building the skeleton for the fibreglass to lay over and the strength is all in the fibreglass (and blockwork) ? So the insulation strips basically just provide the shape for the fibreglass but the strength is in the fibreglass itself and not the insulation?
    thanks in advance

Hello Sam. My qt 500 gal grow on when built had
Chamfer corners. With celotex. No problems. I believe the fiber glassing is strong enough. And as you say. It is just a shell to hold it. 3 1/2 years now no problems

Thank you Freddy, did you just use duct tape to stick to the floor at the bottom as I'm guessing insulation tape won't adhere to concrete,Thanks again

just to update, managed to get this all done today finally! fibreglassing booked for Wednesday can't wait. Does it matter that there is a slight step at the bottom of the insulation for the corners where it is square shaped? Or will the fibreglass just lay straight down over this? I do keep wonder if I'm being OCD seeing as you wont see this on the bottom anyway and it is a pond not a piece of art!!

Not to worry, I used a bead of pink grip just to be sure to fill the small space I was talking about.

Let us know how it all goes Samp, Im ready for fibreglassing, but Im unable to keep the pond dry enough, as I've water ingressing so trying to get on with filter house, managed to dig out trenches 14ft long x 16 inches wide and 6 inches deep and then concrete the trenches, took a ton of all in and cement, hard work, so at least I can get the bison beams in and then build filter house get roof on and over pond, first work I've done on the project for ages, apart from emptying the pond of rain water that keeps ingressing in through walls

I’ve stuffered from the same problem Tom,water finding its way in every time we have a big downpour like the one currently entertaining the garden.I have to go out with a bucket and sponge to draw the water out once I’ve got the majority out the bottom drain and pipework with a small pot!

one of the inlet holes took nearly a week to drill, Old drill lasted about 5 minutes before needing an hours charging on the battery then starting again I had a blocked ear for the first half, then wish I had after the noise was unreal!

I fitted all the inlets when building pond, need a core drill and diamond bit to drill through a 9" wall, i just drilled hole to allow leaching water to drain out into sump pit.

After all your troubles with water coming though the walls while building, next build pour the base into a membrane big enough to go up the side a couple of blocks in height.
I wouldn't build a pond any other way now

Yep, but there is the problem of bottom drains and pipework, you could put the DPM under it all I suppose, but you'll have gaps between pipework and wall though, unless you made it long enough to go up and over it all and sit on top of the wall to stop any water getting down inbetween.
