Distance between top of pond and water line?
Afternoon,
Another question on my pond building journey... . What's the general consensus for the distance between the water line and the top of the pond (wall/coping stones). 5cm/10cm/15cm? What's too little and what's too much? I'm planning on having a skimmer.
Cheers,
Kris.

A high water level looks better, however you do need to consider the risk of fish jumping out. New additions are particularly prone to this.
Another option is to go for jump guards then you can have the water as high as you like and have almost zero risk of jumpers.
Koi can jump quite a log way out of the water on occasion, so you would have to have a substantial amount of wall showing above water level to be jumper-safe with no guards.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Usually space is at a premium so if your going for maximum water volume, every inch counts.
Example, a 10m surface area, 4" of water = 1000lt

Do the skimmers not dictate to what level the water will be or can you move a weir about sorry if it's a silly question its something I havent got but will be fitting on next year

If you set your skimmer up. You set it up with the filter that is receiving the muck. To the pond water level in the skimmer.
In my case an ultra sieve. Separate line on mine from main filter.
When I first set up the main line filter nexus was set up to the pond water level.then when i bought the draco. I had to alter levels to the skimmer water level with draco waste tray level. Don t have a weir in my skimmer. So I know nothing about weirs.

Hi Kris, just been out to measure mine and from water level to top of coping is 2 1/4 ins and the coping is 3/4ins thick.
I use a standard skimmer with a weir and it works fine, but if I fill the pond up too much the skimmer doesn't pull as well so the level is kept around 1/2 way up the face plate.
I use a coping stone on top of the skimmer lid which lifts off when I need access inside.
I converted it to 4ins as it goes straight to a drum,of you are going to a drum worth doing for a good pull.
Hope this helps mate.John
