Need to waterproof external pond wall if sub ground?

    Evening,

I managed to get a move on with my pond build but have a question about the contruction. Plan is 5-6ft deep pond with, say, half of it under ground. It's block built on concrete base and will be fibreglassed, and I'm close to getting out of the ground.

Afterall this rain recently it's no surprise that there's some water coming out of the gound and collecting around the base. It led to the thought of, do I need to waterproof the outside sections of the wall that will be undergound? If so, what product to use?

Or, do I stick in some damp proof membrane around the outside of the wall down to the base and then backfill on to that? Or do I have nothing to worry about?

Quick pic of the build so far...

    Cheers,

    Kris.

If it was a building you can use bitumen primer and rolls of stick on bitumen sheets on the outside and / or use barrier mortar and tanking slurry on the inside. As a pond, its not really Necessary if you want to fibreglass it in the summer. If you want the fibreglass done sooner, You could use tanking slurry (KA slurry is £30 a tub on ebay) and that would get the job done. You would need to tank the walls above ground level too as the damp creeps upwards.

    Looking good though.

Thanks for the replies. The plan wasn't to FG until spring next year at the earliest so no worries if it doesn't get done until summer.
