Thanks all I was kind of chuffed with it, the sieve wastes are now connected up and electrics done................finished? well is a pond ever really finished. I am now thinking about a lid for the pit. Decking would look nice but it going to be heavy to lift anyone used the plastic deck? is it lighter.

From what I've seen on some of the other posts people use rams on their filter pit lids makes lifting them up much easier.

looks neat, you could always do it in 4 hinged section, like a bifold lid,if you did it so you folded from steps side to where your stood im guessing thats front to back,so just fold as you go,,,,andi

A sheet of foam insulation (celotex, kingspan etc) cut to size, then cover with fibreglass. It will be very strong. And very light.

Two layers of fibreglass each side and it would be very strong. You can always add some 2x2 strips of foam underneath and fibreglass over those to add support. You can also go super strong and use woven mat, but thats abit OTT for this. Grp over foam was very common in motorsport until carbon fibre came along.
