Anyone got a link for someone that will make a plastic welded box up? Preferably for 50p?
Or where to get the sheets of plastic from?
Like the plan Al and will look forward to the progress.
"Wrighty" on YouTube does a lot on plastic if you want a look and he has just finished his second drum.

Good luck and keep in touch with it as I love a bit of DIY.

I have found those, thanks John and I am slowly going through the Wrighty vids. Trouble is he doesn't show anything in too much detail because he's trying to flog the plans.
I liked his plastic welding vid, but when I priced up the sheets it was bloody expensive. Like 50 a sheet in something substantial like 12mm!
I am sooo tempted to get a plastic welder but I need to do alot more research to get the right materials. I think Wrighty's latest one is 6mm sheets so that may well bring the price down to something more reasonable.

Your right he doesn't show much, the welding looks easy enough and as you say the sheets are expensive then you have to cut them

I had thought of making one for my grow on but have decided to make a seive like wrightys now as a small drum would cost nearly as much as a larger one
All those bits are cheap enough from China dont know how they make them for that price.

I did some digging. It's slow going. The ground is full of football sized flints, but it's progress.

    Oh dear.

I had already ordered some insulation, so that went on today. I have a bit of perspex to make a lid tomorrow, but i need some more insulation and duct tape for the filter tubs.

    Lids on.

And I've plugged nearly all the other holes with insulation.
Must be doing something as its steaming up.

Temperature outside was 1 degree when I got up this morning. The pond had remained steady at 3.1, so thats an improvement. There's still work to be done though, to keep it above 4 degrees.

Temporarily I've stuck an old 150w aquarium heater in one of the empty media baskets, fully submerged in the middle of the static tub. Trouble is the thermostat only goes down to 16 degrees, so I'll have to keep my eye on it and turn it off at 5 degrees. I have ordered a water proof box for a tenner and will stick a cheap temperature controller in there. I can then set the thermostat on the controller to 5 degrees and not have to worry all winter. Why something like that doesn't exist I don't know?! All the pond heaters are either expensive inline ones or floating jobs that are either permanently on / off at zero / one degree. If someone just made a simple aquarium style heater at 300w (that generally don't cost more then 30) that was adjustable and on/off at 4 / 5 I think lots of people would buy one. I just can't find anything like that.

Managed to grab an hour or so and do a few more barrow loads. Pretty sure I'll extend it a meter or so to the right to aim at more like 2000gallons. I really fancy a gin rin chagoi, but we'll see how it goes.

More digging. We are roughly at 2.5m x 2.5m. Fairly sure now, that I am going to widen it a meter-ish....
