There we go. It looks like a filter again already. It's lost two of the nuts for the uv bulkhead connectors or it would be PP'd and on the pond already.

Just about got it sorted today. A few leaks and broken bits needed sorting. Usual stuff. But UV is on and everything is now water tight.

I've gone for a slightly different set up for the fry. I did have a pressure filter and 5000lph pump on the setup which was obviously ridiculous, but it was all done in a panic and that's what I had to hand. The plan was to swap that pump over for something smaller before they hatched, but I convinced myself the eggs weren't fertilised so didn't bother. Next time I looked there was fry everywhere. I must have lost LOADS of fry getting sucked into that pump, but it's done now. Its got a 1400lph pump on now, that I had in the loft. It's a little water feature pump so it's got a sponge pre filter, which is ideal. I'm not going down the no pump / green water route because Its not setup for trickle in /out and I can't be arsed with daily water changes. Filter is the old UV box with sponges and flocor. The UV won't go on till later. Not heated as yet but I do have the DIY setup I made in the winter, that could go on in 5 mins. I could do with adding a moving bed as they grow.
I've re added the brushes to disrupt the flow a bit. I've ordered fry food and added daphnia today. I will feed the daphnia dried active yeast and spirulina powder.

...about 100. I just remembered to check the canister filter today, there was about 100 swimming around in there!

Overnight ammonia in the fry tub has shot up to 1.0 ppm. It must have been after pouring the contents of the canister filter in or perhaps the addition of the live daphnia (and their water). I can hardly see any swimmers now! 50% water removal and trickling back in. Not easy this fry lark.

Figured out the skimmer location and therefore where I need a gap in the top wooden frame. I've made the gap wide enough incase I ever decide to put a wide mouth on it. I also got 3 sides of the top frame made. Just the long window side to go.

This is the panel I cut out for the skimmer. I'm pretty happy that I laid it up think enough! With all my weight on it, I cannot get it to bend at all.

One step forwards. Two steps back. There was very few fry left after the ammonia spike. Like 5 or 6 and they were all in the filter box. A couple looked a bit 'spazzy' though. My 400 micron filter sock, to go over the pump hasn't arrived so I thought i'd set them up in a spare tank. Kids loved it. Trouble is it leaked. So they're back in the tub, with a home made moving bed.

I think I've cracked it! Swapped over the McDonald's water bottle for a 1.5L coke bottle from the Chinese and it sinks! Shame there's no bloody fry left, or at least I can't see them now the air's on! At least I've learnt something for next year.
Might just grow daphnia in the tub for now.
