I was lucky enough to have a mate at work who was a bricky and on this occasion I asked him as an experienced tradesman to do it .It took him 1 & a half days I supplied all the materials ,mixer & tea all for less than £500. He is busy at work now but I do know a semi retired bricky who is going to give me the choice of a day rate or complete job price for the main 5000 gallon pond.
Has anyone tried and tested a combination of low/ mid & high level returns to keep waste moving towards the bottom drains?
Is it better to have "dead" areas near the Windows to prevent turbulence and encourage the fish to people watch?

I originally had someone that was going to do mine for very little but then something happened and he couldn't do it. I can see it's a double skinned wall and the bricks don't look like they have been cut to make them go round in a circle so your round ponds must be what 12ft diameter at least?

It is actually 8ft diameter and 6ft deep pre formed fibreglass with 4 inch bottom drain 4 inch side drain, gravity fed both with slide valves into a vortex, then a 10 foot x 2 foot chamber with brushes, matting, alpha grog & 2 k1 moving beds then top skimmer into uv home made fine sieve pump return with under surface pool adjustable nozzles

Mine's a similar diameter but not as deep and people were saying it would have to be done in half bricks or bricks on edge and reckoned the first day would just be laying out and marking up there was mention of using full bricks but would have to cut the corners off them to get the curve right which again would add more time so I reckon they just didn't want to do the work. One guy said he could only do weekends and I would have to collect him and drop him back home again and it would take as long as it takes so you can see why I gave up with the idea in the end can't you?

Love the brickwork on the round pond especially the way the bricks match the wall.
Not easy finding bricks that match so well (unless you built the wall as well). Even when you do get identical bricks they are hard to match as some reclaimed batches invariably have more soot staining than others.
My house looks black (1930's) but the bricks are actually yellow.

Yes I built the wall behind as well !
including the stonework and personally made the leaded window too, but the trick is lots of bricks from multiple sources all mixed up randomly and use both sides of the bricks.
I keep collecting bricks that are being thrown out - free to collect etc

Problem was it was the hottest day of the year last August and the concrete started setting before we could properly level out. So a bit of extra screeding to be done as it is one block lower at one end than the other oooops.
Secondhand windows that I bought from someone closing his pond down are sitting waiting to go in. Loads of used bricks ready to go on outside the block work.
Filtreau combi drum to be delivered in 2 weeks time so I feel like it is actually going to happen now

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
