Quarantine/growing on tank advice
Over the winter I thought I'd build a quarantine/growing on tank in our basement.
I'll have to connect the tank, spindrifter, Ultrasieve and moving bed filter with one Superfish external pump.
My question is, where to connect the pump and how to manage the return?

sorry if this is more an add on question than an answer.
If its for Quarantine would you want to mix the water with your main filters/pond?
Would it not be a separate system?
I did read that a sieve will be sufficient to catch/filter out bugs, is that what happens?

Yes, completely separate system. I just happen to have a spare Ultrasieve so may as well use it.
I don't think a sieve will deal with bugs but it'll handle the fish waste easily.Profi-Drum, Nexus 220, 45 basket anoxic filter

Spindrifter to ultraseive to moving bed to pump, return could be over the side of the tank with a splash return or if your handy make a small shower return.
You dont really need a spindrifter but if you allready have one thats fine as they are expensive, presume you are doing 4ins drain?John

Yes, I already have the spindrifter.
I need to determine the size of moving bed to build. The tank will hold about 2000 litres.Profi-Drum, Nexus 220, 45 basket anoxic filter

They say the bigger the better, are you going to use K1?
Tank 2000ltrs maybe a bio tank of 200 ltrs,if it was me i would go from seive to a small shower on the side of the tank.
I made my main bio tank from ply and glassed the inside.John

Yes, I'll use K1. I plan on making the moving bed tank from polypropylene.
I need to keep it all as quiet as possible as it's in the basement of the house so a shower's a bit noisy.Profi-Drum, Nexus 220, 45 basket anoxic filter

As this is going in the basement, I'll need some daylight, preferably LED, lamps to cycle the koi through a day night cycle.
Any recommendations?Profi-Drum, Nexus 220, 45 basket anoxic filter

Sorry Ash,i forgot it needs a pump after the seive,so maybe pump up to the bio which is above the tank and gravity return to tank.
I havnt got a seive so forgot it needs to be pumped after it,like your drawing but the bio higher than the tank or as you have done in at the bottom out at the top to splash return.
Very good drawing Ash.John

I'm almost there with the design and am running out space a bit.
Is there any reason why UV and Ozone shouldn't go BEFORE the bio filter. I know it's normally after but what would be the downside of installing before?Profi-Drum, Nexus 220, 45 basket anoxic filter

hi ash. i don t have a uv on my setup on qt growon. been running for 2 years now. no green or algi. because of no sun light. i use day and night strip light above the tank 500 gallons.
and a normal strip light bulb in the shed for more light. hope this helps.

Agree with Fred as i dont use a uv on my grow on and never had probs with green water, but if you wanted to fit one dont see what harm it would do after the seive and before the bio.

morning john. agree with john on putting uv after sieve and before bio. lots of us don t have them. but like john said no harm done to fit one. just to make sure. get some photos on mate when you build it. as it is good to see things for ideas and stuff like that. good luck with the build.

My drawings are finished and I now need to source someone to build two polypropylene moving bed filters from the drawings.
Does anyone on here have any recommendations?Profi-Drum, Nexus 220, 45 basket anoxic filter

Spoken to them about a couple of bio boxes I want made and they’ve been extremely helpful, and helping me get best value by using sheet sizes. Bottom drains are very well priced, others speak highly of quality so I’m about to order a load of stuff from them for my pond build
