Thread: How many drains / drums?

two or even three drums into a single large bio unit sounds good, id treat the bio as a pond and probably glass it as its going to be cheaper and easier to get a custom built on site unit.
there's been a few videos shared of large pond builds, maybe they have shared their best ideas to a problem and reviled what they wish they had done in hindsightthe slow pond build thread

Talking of crayons... The designer sent over 80 renderings of the garden a week or so ago... I'm blown away by them. Worst thing is, I think they are so "perfect" that the garden will never materialise as well as the renderings! Have posted some below for you...
Oh, ignore the big lily pads and in pond features, I don't think the designer realises that a koi pond isn't a large version of a tropical fish tank.

That is superb, but I would be worried about keeping it spotless Loving the window curved looks good but straight would look good as well
When I’m dead I hope my Mrs doesn’t sell my fishing gear for what I told her they cost!

A few non pond related updates....
Breeze House (Gazebo) is installed on the newly created concrete base. Framework for the top round 9m diameter deck is now complete (in progress in the picture)

And now a pond related piece...
I've crayoned out the following filter design. I like @bowsaw 's idea of just building the bio as part of the room / pit. It needs a bit of work still! I'm hoping it will fit in a pit under the hanging day bed which overlooks the pond to the right of the smaller circle deck. I'm planning on putting some cellar style doors on the top with gas assistance shocks so that I can fully open the top to clean / check on the filters. I might put the electrics / drum control boxes in an above ground box rather than having them below ground level.

Any thoughts on the design? In particular, I'm planning on keeping the flow to around 10k on each of the bio returns using something like aqua variflows. This should provide enough dwell time in the bio chambers.
The remainder will be drawn from the clean side of the drum over a shower. Wondering if I can tee these together from both drums and get away with a single Flofriend to the shower.
I'll put a sump in the bottom of the pit and glass the whole thing. The waste from the drums can be piped to the sump and a dirty water pump will shift the water to the rainwater harvesting tank we have.

I haven't indicated any valves on the drawing as yet. But I will valve it so that either drum can be isolated if required allowing the remaining drum to keep running and feed the bio chamber / shower.
