800 grams of bi-carb added yesterday
800 grams of bi-carb added today

Well its been a busy old year that's for sure.

The heating on the pond is now working off the house central heating through a swimming pool heat exchanger, it doesn't give a lot of heat out but hopefully it will take the chill off a bit, im seeing 0.1 degree difference over a night, not that we have the heating on that much at the moment.

Just spent close to £500 on covers for the pond, its an odd shaped pond and the span is almost 4 meters unsupported, what do you use to support the joints and how do you hold it down to stop the wind getting under it?

for reference the sheets I ordered are

    Corotherm 25mm - Sevenwall Polycarbonate Sheet - Clear (3500x2100x25mm)
    Corotherm 25mm - Sevenwall Polycarbonate Sheet - Clear (3000x1600x25mm)
    Corotherm 25mm - Sevenwall Polycarbonate Sheet - Clear (4000x1600x25mm)
4600 Gallon Concrete Block and Fiberglass
2100 mm x 710 mm Infinity Window 32mm thick glass
2 x Aerated Bottom Drains and Skimmer

hooking the central heating up to the pond is something i ran out of time for this year....
would be very interested in pics

dbs has ordered some stainless T section for his covers but with yours having a 4 mtr span would need to be very strong...

I was contemplating using 4" timber on its edge so it would lift the sheets up at one edge so snow and rain wouldn't settle as much, then I would need to fill in the void at the sides with something to stop the wind getting under it, I think the wind chill is the biggest problem.

I'll put some pictures on when I get chance, might not be until next week when I'm stuck in a hotel for the week, working away

I have a roll of Plastic coated stainless steel wire in the shed, I could string that across attached to the pergola supports and rest the sheeting on that, probably do the same on the top to hold it down, or ratchet straps?

    cheers,
trying to decide between boxing in a heat exchanger on the back wall of the house outside,
and running 2" PVC to it from the pond.
would probably be the easiest to do.

or running heating pipes underground up to the filter house and using a direct heat coil in the drum or bio filter.
i could probably heat the cabin as well
