I have modified my Skimmer to reduce the flow to the Drum and skim the surface better, the original face-plate had more flow than the bottom drain lol

So I have measured my pond height and cut the slot 8mm below the water and 10mm above the water line, I did try to do it with holes below the water line but these blocked up with Blanketweed pretty quickly as it got cough between the holes, its made from 4mm GRP sheeting and cut to size with an angle grinder

Roy and Lynn's shiny new pond (one day)

How’s your skimmer plumbed in Roy? I thought the bottom drains normally take the priority and sometimes making skimmers almost redundant unless being pump fed?

Depends on the length of run and the pipe diameter.
Make the skimmer 4” and you shouldn’t have a problem in my experience.

Its plumbed in directly to the Drum but its the shortest run so it will naturally take priority as its flow will be faster and the opening on the front weir was massive, its in 3" pipe which is plenty for a skimmer in my opinion, altering the weir has reduced the flow so that has put the priority back to the Bottom drains

If it was in 4" it would be even worse as its only 1 meter from the drum and the bottom drains are almost 6 meters

Cool thanks. My worry is the distance of mine. I think I’ll struggle to get enough flow through one independently plumbed or plumbing it into the drain plumbing.

I got up this morning and the pond looks like it has a sea of green, the wind must have been bad last night, I have a coating of leaves on top of the pond, they seem to be dropping as if it was Autumn, have I missed a few months during lockdown

What's the reason your pond has gone green. I would have thought the filter system is designed to control this.

Its in full sun from first thing in the morning until about 4 in the afternoon, so it needs some shade, also my UV is under powered for the pond, its all on my to do list, but its a long and expensive list, plus with all the house renovations that we are currently doing its not at the top of the list

    Same here Roy.

Could barely see beyond the surface through leaves, petals and other floating debris (don't know what it is, looks like tree seeds of some sort).

Must be global warming, everything gets put down to that

Although I haven't heard a thing about global warming or Brexit recently, not sure why

Me too Roy, constant gusts have brought leaves, twigs, husks and all to my pond. We have oak trees round us, and the constant crap that comes off them all year is unbelievable. Like the look of the trees, but they are a real pain..skimmer working overtime..

Ha ha funny you say that, I was wondering why we haven't heard from Greta for some time now, all the time she missed from school last year and now this she must be well behind.

But she must be over the moon that planes aren't flying and factories are closed, brilliant for the planet so she's achieved her goal and can retire now!

A bit OTT for four links but will do the job I guess . Not sure about cheap when they were first released but definitely reliable as we're still running a load of them

A few questions on windows if you don't mind...

When you did your window, how much did you allow for the thickness of fibreglass in the rebate? Say your window is 30mm thick, did you rebate to, say, 35mm deep? It looks like you just fiberglassed straight onto the blocks for the rebate? I was thinking of letting my window overlap the rebate by 50mm at each edge, does that sound okay?

    Cheers,

    Kris.
