It's getting closer to moving now probably a month and half till I move. The people I'm buying from said i can set up the swimming pool one we have signed all of the contracts. I've got a bout 15 fish at the moment all still quite small as I only started buying them from May onwards last year, what size pool should I get as a temporary home for them and how will I filter it as currently my pond runs off of a gravity fed system to sieve then bead then UV and return.

Im almost in the same boat as you.moved 6months ago and pond was pushed back.
And you know what? I'm glad !
I'd recommend spending some time in your new garden and consider your options instead of jumping into it!!!
I've changed my mind 3/4 times now !!!

Just been down to the pond and have noticed that one of the koi seems to have enlarged eyes, one of its fins isn't moving when swimming and looks like half of it has disappeared and also has a white fungus around its mouth. Any ideas what it could be and what I need to do to treat it.

Went down to the pond sunday to try and get a picture of the fish and unfortunately it was floating on the surface. Looked as though it had only just died as there were no signs of rot other than already described. I did notice when I took the fish out that the eyes were red though not sure if that's normal when a koi dies or indicates anything else

A couple of weeks ago I had a bit of a mishap, when cleaning the pond I left the drain valve open and managed to drain half the pond before I'd realised. When I clean the pond I alway turn off the UV, however due to taking most of the day to refill the pond I forgot to turn the UV back on and didn't realise for a week or so when I went to do the next maintaince. I got an algae build up on the walls but put it down to the weather and increase in sun we were getting. Now the UV is back on the algea is dying off but I now have lots of algae breaking off and floating around in the water. Is there a way to get rid of it quickly or do I need to wait for it to sink and find its way into the filter. I'm also due to replace my UV bulb next month as its been running a year then but I should be moving when restrictions are lifted just waiting for the solicitors to finalise the paperwork and send out contracts for signing. Should I replace the bulb before I move or once the new pond is built and up and running, its one of the first jobs I'm planning to get done.

I've bought a swimming pool to temporarily house the koi when I move so that I can get the new pond dug and built. As the pool has been used do I need to do anything to it before I fill it with water for the koi. It also has holes and a pump in the side should I use this to connect up to the temporary filtration or set the filtration up separately and use this for circulation.

I ran the filter over the side when I used one, if in doubt then you could fill and drain it.

Ok cheers, as I'm not going to have a filter house and hoping to get a builder in pretty quickly im thinking I could pump straight to my shower to keep the filter going rather than setting up the bead filter too or would I need both?

Starting to look at getting bits for the build as I should be moving next week. I have most of the main components as ill be removing filters ect from the existing pond before i leave. I'll need a couple of aerated BD's and a skimmer. Like the look of the skimmer from JBR but its £150 plus VAT and delivery. Is there any advantage to this skimmer over a normal wide mouth skimmer other than its the size of a block so easier to build into the wall or should I save myself £130 and just get a normal skimmer?

I bought skimmer that was easier to fit into the build. Same. Block size. And how easy
The piping came out the skimmer for plumbing. You can save money. But sometimes you lose that by paying more on the pipe plumbing. So bear this in mind.

Thanks Fred, that makes sense, must admit was a pain trying to get the pipework to fit on the current skimmer and took a long time to sort the wall out

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
