Hi mate,

I've used your pond build thread a few times for research. Can I ask about you bottom drain installation? As I'm fitting mine like yours without a full concrete slab what sort of concrete mix did you use for this? Was it just a ballast and cement mix? If so what ratio? Hope you don't mind me asking but seems most builds are block built and on a slab.

Hi Alex,
Best thing do to is set the sleepers onto a concrete collar around the perimeter of the pond.
Then lay sleepers in position and drill holes through them with a long drill bit (I did 16mm), then remove top layer of sleepers and switch to a 16mm concrete bit and use bottom sleeper as a guide to drill through the concrete collar.

Then put sleepers back into position and screw them together using 150mm and 250mm Timberlok screws.

Then sledge hammer 1 metre lengths of 16mm rebar through the holes you drilled through the sleepers and down through the concrete and into the ground below.

The sleepers will never move after this.

I’ve just stumbled across your sleeper pond and it’s exactly what I’m after! My corn erm with building mine is, as you have, lay your sleepers on their side, how did you fix them to the layer below too prevent them moving?
