    Help with koi identification

    Hi all,

Could you please assist in identifying the attached koi? It is fully scaled and has silver metallic scales. The scale pattern is not uniform like a chagoi for example. They are more like that of a fully scaled mirror carp.

Not sure if this is just classed as a ghost koi, or if this is a specific type.

    Your help would be appreciated.

I agree, im not sure what that is not seen a koi with scales like that. Im not sure how big that tank is but based on the Denison barbs its in an aquarium and likely has been stunted.. Looks healthy though

    Hi Mike,

I bought this koi from fry about 18 months back. There were approx. 5 other fry which have heavily outgrown this koi by a good margin. It has always been kept in my garden pond which is very big (20ft plus). However, over the past week I have gradually re-acclimatized the koi to a warmer temperature so that I can bring him inside to my aquarium.

The main reason for this being, I have a similar sized Kikokuryu koi which is in a bit of a state; mouth and fin rot. All other koi in my pond are in perfect condition, so I believe due to the cold weather change; this koi could not fight off the infection despite numerous medication attempts and salt baths. I think the warmer temp may allow it to recover for the spring, so it can go back outside. I brought the other unidentified koi in with it for two reasons; for company for the sick koi (which has been successful as they swim side by side constantly and the other koi seems quite relaxed). Secondly, so I could feed up the small unidentified koi during the winter (for release back into the pond in Spring).

I've been forced into this really as I don't have a large heater attached to my pond. Instead I have a couple of smaller heaters in one area of the pond, as to create a warmer spot. But it is something i'm looking into at the moment.

When the unidentified koi started to develop, I could see it was very attractive and not one i'd seen before. I'm thinking its a fully scaled ghost mirror koi but could be completely wrong. I hoping someone on here has seen one before and can confirm.

    Many thanks

I've taken a look at the Armour Scale Soragoi and it is close. But the head and body are a dark grey in colour. Mine has a white colour head and a lighter body. Whilst googling your suggestion I think I may have cracked it. I think it is the Armour Scale Kikokuryu. I'll attach both pictures just to close this one out. But thanks for the steer as it put me on the right track.
