Hi all.
Any ideas what variety this is? One of my New Forest fry from last year. Kept him because he looked interesting side on, almost invisible from above though.

Probably the most amazing linear mirror carp ever

Heres a better pic.
Yes, I see it now, the scales are mirror carp. I guess they start off jet black when young and it will just grow to look like a river fish? Or is it some sort of mongrol cross with a black koi??

I’d hold on to that, looks amazing, those scales look silver?

I could not get rid of it now if I wanted to- its MrsF's new favourite.
Yes, the scales are fully silver, mirror like. Out of the light you can barely see him but when the sun catches him in the window he really shines. From above he just looks black and uninteresting and if I didn't have the window he would have been culled already.
It brings me on to a thought I had recently- will the increasing popularity of koi pond windows change the way we assess koi??
Traditionally fish are rated, valued, for their appearance from the top view but windows give you a whole new perspective. Some which look good from the top, look so so side on and visa versa. Will breeders start to select with that in mind....
Discuss.

Update and a couple more pics.
There were two fish that looked like the photo from 26th July and this is them now. I am amazed how fast they can change in three weeks, probably not news to the "old hands" on here but a revelation to me
One seems to be losing all its black colour and becoming a light blue, the other may go the same way I guess but I will enjoy watching them progress.

This is something I was also wondering when realising a fish that I bought was quite nice from the top but completely different and unattractive side on. I suppose they will have to start selecting for fish that look good from both angles, as surely the demand shapes what they have to select for and not vice versa?
