    Are these koi?

    Morning guys.

I am new to the forum and hobby, having just kept marine and tropical aquariums in the past.
I'm currently in the middle of a pond build. And a family member has given me 3 fish ready for when my pond us built.

He reckons 2 of them are koi.

    COULD anyone confirm please
    Thanks
    Ryan

Can’t see it myself, most koi have mouths that ‘face’ down as they are bottom suckers sorry

I thought as much... Thanks all the same.. Looks like my pond will become the dumping ground for everyone's unwanted fish now..

    Cheers ryan

They are the wrong shape for young koi, and dont seem to have the barbels that koi have either side of the mouth. They are goldfish IMO.

On the grounds of biosecurity its worth bring very strict with friends and family that you dont accept ‘gifts’. Your pond is not that large so you will only be able to choose a few koi for it- a lot of the fun of koi keeping is making that choice for yourself. Well I think so anyway!

They look like goldfish to me, probably the comet variety, judging by the colour and tail shape. Nothing wrong with a few goldies imo. They make great QT buddies and are quite hardy in my experience.
