i like that, looks a really neat job
i hate nets too... not sure anyone likes them
but i'm not sure if it will have much effect detering herons though.
some ponds are lucky, are completely open, and never have a visit from one.
others go for years with no problem then suddenly get one out of the blue.
having houses close all round is probably more of a deterrant,
my pond is the same with houses close over the back fence.
i added some overhead paracord lines to make it difficult for them to land as a first line of defense (could do with some more crossing over to make a net pattern), and still use nets at night.

hi
got up this morning checked on the pond from bedroom window and low and behold a flaming great heron. shot down stairs and scared it off checked half hour later and back again. I cant account for six koi one about 10 inch and five all from Adam Byers last May. I'm hoping they are hiding under the watercress will keep checking .
can anyone recommend some sort of reasonably price camera that will pick up movement and activate my phone.

This is what I use.

If you shop around you probably will get it cheaper. Great picture quality, easy to setup and I’ve found it very reliable.
Here’s a pic from my camera.

Hi Keith, I use these. I got them a lot cheaper on a deal but best Iv owned. Wireless, super sensitive, has a torch and a siren, waterproof and can plonk them anywhere oh and you can scream down the microphone which has worked on a cat!. Got one in the filter pit end of the garden god knows how it’s picking up signal

Don’t think you’ll go to far wrong with the Tapo camera, as I said I found them excellent for the price.
The problem with Heroes are they don’t give up easily. You need something to scare them off as soon as they land. I had a problem with pigeons in the waterfall, so tried one of these.

I don’t have a problem anymore, it worked brilliantly. If it works on pigeons don’t see why it shouldn’t work on Heroes. Don’t know how robust they are only time will tell.
I’ve had mine for three months now and it is still going.

I’ve plumped my jet spray so the supply pipe is underground and insulated it to the spry head. I’ll have to see if it works though the winter.
I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the Tapo camera, you can check on the pond on matter where you are.
