    Crafty Cat

One of the neighbourhood cats has been sniffing around my pond for months. Earlier in the year he would help himself to a drink of water, and since the covers have been on he picks up any loose pellets that miss the funnel when the feeder goes off. I thought this behaviour was cute and harmless, but now things have gone too far when I looked out in the morning and found the lid off and the feeder empty. A search of the cctv and I see the cat flipping off the lid of the profi feeder and helping himself, and at one point he was actually inside it. Making the lid more secure is no longer sufficient as his attempts to open it are shaking all the food into the pond, not good at these lower temperatures. I had a motion detector switch on the overhead pergola light but he wasn’t the slightest bit bothered, so I’m going to try an ultrasonic cat scarer, although it seems to be hit and miss whether these are effective or not. Any suggestions as to stopping this?

Lemons, Banana, there's quite a few food stuffs that cats don't like.

However fish pellets are almost identical to some cat dried foods.

You could get some big cat wee (ie Tiger or lion wee spray) and that would deter them from entering the garden.

make a video and upload it to youtube.... you'll make a mint...

i had a pesky cat that used to come into my garden occasionally...
then one weekend we were looking after the father in-laws dog ...

the cat sauntered in to the garden...
the lurcher saw it and shot out of the patio doors like a greyhound out of the traps after the cat,
the cat hit the fence and then went vertical at about 100mph and i've not seen it since....

Unfortunately, the only video is from the very edge of the view from a different camera, so the zoomed in image is not vey clear but you can still make it out.

Do you know if you can get replacement lid for a profi feeder? The hinge points are broken on mine.

you need that video well lit and in HD

don't know about the profi feeder,
but lee hadfield uses a similar looking feeder, and has no cats in his garden....
he has an electric 'cat' wire around the top of the garden fence...

    Hi Buddy

Can you just not put a box over the top and weigh it down with something heavy - it will soon get the message

I would stop using the feeder and manually feed for a while as a temporary fix. How often are they getting fed at the moment?
Presumably this would not happen once the covers are off?
You could molish some kind of wire cage over the thing so the cat can’t get anywhere near it.

One of my cats drinks from the pond, he won’t drink from anything else. He doesn’t like it when the fish come up to suck his face though
