    Heron? Seagull!!

I'll try and write this without $%£@# swearing!

Thought I'd be clever when relocating/extending pond earlier this year, and just put a 0.5m net round the edge, on the basis that herons want to land and wade, and don't land in water. This has worked - we had one attempt and we haven't seen the heron since.

However, yesterday morning, we were awoken by a bird making noises, looked out of the window to see a gull flying around...checked out my CCTV and - I didn't believe this at first - it's had our little (6") sturgeon!

Photo below is the moment of the crime.

Luckily I have some spare netting, but not great that I've had to cover the whole pond now.

I've had the same thing with seagulls..........its the curse of living near the sea. I brought a gazebo with netting on the sides to go over my raised pond. Unfortunately I still noticed fish disappearing.....turns out my neighbours cat liked it in there (shelter and food)

We have cats too - however, some of my koi are bigger than they are, so they're very wary of the pond!
Full net seems to have worked so far - seagull tried again to land in the water yesterday morning, but got a rude shock
I get seagulls living near the sea...but we're in Stockport FGS!

people are out in force again, so the gulls have the means for a nice easy street meal again, rather than having to work for it

At this time of year for me there are a lot of young and stupid gulls around that will dive into anything for something to eat. Gulls pass over my pond on the way from the sea to the tip and most of my seagull problems are at this time of year. I have lost a few fish but not this year thankfully.

Red, if anything not quite sure how we finished 3rd!
Truth be told, more green (basketball - Manchester Giants) although performance there isn't great...

Winning more games than the opposition . Ole wont be credited of course for an extraordinary turnaround on Chelsea and Leicester. All the pundits will be praising Lampard who finished in the CL pre-qualifying place. The bitter Leicester fans on five live and talk sport were hilarious.
