Hi,
Basically Hel X is abit larger with a different design than EA K1 (greater surface area etc for bacteria to grow) and Oase claims it’s processes 6.8grams of food per litre per day vs K1 which EA claims processes 5 grams of food per litre = Hel X processes 36% more food / ammonia per litre
I.e. 100 litres of Hel X process 680 grams of food a day vs K1 500 grams. in theory you can use less Hel X to process the same amount of ammonia as the same amount of K1, helpful if you have limited space but want to increase your bio filter capacity.
Ive used both in the past, they are both good.

I think you can add / mix Hel X without any problems, fundamentally they are the same thing just different designs.
I think EA state the max amount of K1 is 150ltrs but you could probably add more. I used to have Nexus 300s which could cope with 300ltrs but don’t have any experience of the 220.
maybe other Forum members can comment.
thanks for the interest

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
