For Sale: Nexus 220 + Draco Drum, 55W UVC, 600mm Waterblade & Free HiBlow80
***PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS ARE NOW SOLD***
Hi everyone. Having had fun and games with resistant flukes, I eventually removed all my fish and sanitised my pond and filter two months ago. Whist drained down, I changed my Nexus 220 + Draco for an Oase ProfiClear Compact because the Nexus was simply too big for my filter house and made maintenance an utter nightmare as I could barely get around it – even whilst breathing in and standing on tip toe
Now that the new kit is up and running and my are fish back in their pond, I can finally get around to moving on my old equipment. It has all been thoroughly sterilised, washed and dried so ready to be installed. Everything was purchased new for my pond build which was completed in September 2017. With the exception of the HiBlow80 Air Pump (which is free to anyone who wants it for spares or to fix), all items are in sound working order, and the UV even has a spare new bulb with it. I have 100L of K1 with my Nexus, 50L of which was added in July last year hence the colour differences.
My Draco has the upgraded motor and has never missed a beat. The electrics box has never leaked (as some were reported to have done) so is pristine inside, as per pics below.
The bottom inlet, Stainless Steel Waterblade is 600mm wide with a 550mm spillway from DPM Welding & Fabrications, T/A Waterblades R Us. Only reason for sale is because I under-measured and really needed a 700mm spillway for my set up to stop the wind blowing the water backwards onto the copings, so forked out for a new one whilst changing the filter.
Prices:
Nexus 220 + Draco Drum 2 Drop In + 100L K1 = £1,000
Kockey Koi Yamitsu 55w UVC + Brackets + Spare 55W UV = £50
Waterblade 600mm wide with 550mm Spillway = £80
HiBlow80 Air Pump - Non Working, but most likely repairable = FREE to a loving home!
Location: PE26 – Have a trailer, so could deliver if cost of fuel covered @ 40p / mile (I'm afraid I have a bit of a gas guzzler!)

Everything looks immaculate.
A refreshing change to seeing filter equipment advertised in need of hours worth of scrubbing before it can be used.
Good luck with the sale.

The HiBlow has a resettable safety switch that disconnects the power if the piston-throw travels too far (the diagram rips for example).
You can get a service kit - replace the diaphragms, reset the switch and it should the work. Electrically they're as simple as you can get!
It may save you some money
I'd have the HiBlow off you but I'm not sure how much it would cost postage (PE26 -> GU4). PM me (I'm looking at an XP80 anyway!)14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

I admit ... I did put a good number of hours into cleaning everything! I'm a bit OCD like that, which explains this photo...

Hi Nick, when the pump stopped I did the usual 'YouTube Training' and took it apart, but because I saw a lot of black debris, I presumed that it had burned out somewhere and that it wasn't going to be as simple as just replacing the diaphragms. I was also in a real dilemma as I was in the middle of treating and could not afford any down time involved in getting the parts here in case they didn't work. The HP80 has gone up in price so much since I bought it in 2017 that I ended up buying two pumps (Charles Austen ET Enviro 60 & 80 LPM) for less than what the replacement would have cost
Anyway - you've inspired me to take another look, and I'm now wondering if it is just the diaphragms that have gone. The rod block looks absolutely new both sides, but I'm still a bit dubious about the black dust elsewhere. Could you please take a look at my strip down pics and advise if this is how they usually look inside when the diaphragms go? If so, I may well stump up for a repair kit as it'd be really good to have a spare air pump on hand.

Thanks Fred - it's all in good working order (well, besides the Air Pump!) so I hoped I was fair on the pricing. Really could do with a few pennies coming back my way after what I've recently spent on treatments, water changes and heating - let alone the new equipment! Hubs very kindly said he'd pay for the Profi as my 50th birthday pressie, so I was made up with that I did chuckle to myself though - it must be an ageing thing 'cos if someone had told me when I was 30 that in 20 years time the thing that'd make me most happy would be a new Koi Pond Filter I would not have believed it

The resettable switch circled.. so you should be able to re-diaphram it and then reset the switch. The diaphragms have definitely gone. What happens is that allows the piston to move further than normally that trips the safety switch. Supposedly - replace and reset and you're good to go.
If you have a little electricity meter - just try the continuity (it uses 9 volts and buzzes when you touch the probes together) once the switch is reset - just don't have it plugged in when you try that! The arrows should line up and push the little orange bump on the little switch tabled SS-10.

I won't mention that air pumps get that black pollution inside if you have OCD
Diaphragms are interesting - you need to have a particular pressure range, not too much not too little and the diaphragm is happy. Go outside of that and it starts putting too much strain on it reducing it's life time.
The obvious thing. -- 240V AC power can.. no... make that it will kill. So ensure the thing is reassembled before plugging in and unplugged when pulling it apart. However it looks fine internally - the mess is not melted but dust by the looks of it.14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

Thanks so much for that advice Nick. I think I'm going to try the repair - daft not to, so sorry folks - free Air Pump staying at current loving home for time being. If repair fails, I'll put it up for adoption again in case there are any other parts that are useful for someone
Yes, I've recently learned how sensitive diaphragms are after talking to the very helpful Aaron at Charles Austen Pumps when I was looking for the replacements. He explained that to avoid back pressure (the biggest killer of air pumps), if using a multi-point manifold it's best to have the same length pipe to each equally sized air stone to ensure equal air is sent to each, regardless of how much pipe you need for the position of the stone. Also, if you need to reduce the output, it's best to have a spare port on the manifold to 'off gas' rather than closing the valves down on the others. To keep the noise of this off gassing down, put a dry air stone on the line (guessing this would also need to be on the same length of pipe?!). And finally, he advised me not to use one pump to aerate biomedia as well as air stones in the pond - which is what I was doing with the HiBlow80. He explained that it's impossible to divert the air effectively between such diverse applications without causing back pressure .... and judging by the state of my diaphragms - he's spot on! I also didn't realise I needed to clean the air intake foam on the pump to allow it to breath easily, so I've learned my lesson on that too. This is why I ended up buying two air pumps, one for the filter and one for the pond air stones, and seeking a cheaper solution than a HiBlow!
Hahaha! Well I'm very glad you did as that's what has convinced me to try the repair. My OCD's not that bad, well... I don't think it is. Hubs isn't so keen on my habit of making sure all the jars and tins in the cupboard have their labels pointing outwards, and I would never admit to having turned toilet rolls round the 'right way' in other people's homesLast edited by Koiz; 04-07-2020 at 01:09 PM.

Isn't it just! Sorry to hear that Spongebob. All the kit is sitting in my summer house now and whilst I'd love to shift it ASAP, it's not really in the way and can stay there till it sells, so do keep an eye on this thread as it may well still be available when things improve for you

Hi, is the UV still available? Would you consider posting or passing Norwich at any point?!

Cheers

It’s not ideal for a 310, the Draco for a 310 is larger and accommodates an extra cleaning jet, you would not get the full flow of water through it.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
