Nice one andy. Good to hear from you mate. Sounds awesome. 4 grow ons as well. How do you ventilate the room for condensation. And photos mate.
We all love photo s. I will just have to dream. My garden isn't large enough for a project like yours and Vince's.

Thanks Anne and Fred
Itching to get on with the pond build whilst it's [finally] dry, and having a filter is useful to get the levels right

my first filter set up was called the bee hive a very old type of filter, but i ended up using a cetus sieve on my skimmer line and a easy pod on the bottom drain. from there I added a anoxic filter after the sieve but had problems with the set up and keeping it clean. I then went for the nexus 300 on the bottom drain, sold on the sieve and put the easy pod on the skimmer line.have a Filtreau combi next with both skimmer and bottom drain going into it, this has 200lt of moving bed K1 in this then goes into two 190lt stand alone moving bed filters from filtreau with a 30.000 EA veriflow pump with a slit return one going into the electro 2kw heater and one into a tornado protein skimmer modified with a ozone set up . I also run a 40w amalgam UV in the combi filter and a 80w on the two returns to the pond.
now everyone is thinking that is insane , but I have 17 koi from 90+cm down to 25cm and feed almost one kg of food a day in summer. the idea behind this is the smaller the pond the bigger the filter is needed to handle the faster build up of ammonia and nitrite. and the UV and ozone stops bacterial problems in the pond from happening.
I now

Sounds like a brilliant setup vince. Makes sense though with the idea of smaller pond volume . Nitrite ammonia build up. Is harder to get rid of. As it isn't as diluted . Because of less volume . 30000lh pump. That's some flow and turn over of water mate. Do you run it at full flow all the time
Mate.
I ain't got a clue about ozone.

it is running flat out right now mate but by time I take off flow loss from pipework and heater it would be around 20.000 . ozone not only kills virus, Bactria but also ammonia, nitrite and pheromones . the build up of pheromones stops the fish from growing as fast as they would in a bigger pond. you can use a trickle feed to act in the same way but in winter you end up cooling the water all the time.

I went on that link for your drum. It looks like a really good drum. Strong and well built. What do you think of it since you have had it fitted mate. Is it as good as it looks..
Also looked at the UV s. There was an ozone one there. Is that what you have fitted mate. And that does the ozone side of things. For you. Like I say I have not got a clue about ozone at all.
That's still a good turn over of the pond mate.
Sounds brill.

the filter is very good for the money mate. I would say on par with some more expensive ones around. the ozone I use is a stand alone one, not a uv powered one. the fist one I got was the koizone one but it only lasted 3 years. I now use a home made set that built at a cost of £120 and just replace the ozone generator every two years at £60. the first set up was silly over priced at £750. and what they do not tell you is it needs a new generator every few years costing £300

this is the one I use and have it working with a timer so it is on for 15mins every hour as having it on all the time can make the water too pure for the fish.
you can get one made up so all you need is a timer plug
