Thread: Strange anal look

Hi guys just noticed my shiro utsuri anal look pretty strange. Ive thought its because of possible eggs spawn.. do you have any ideas what can caused it? Any treatment required?

Do you know if this Koi is female and whether it has spawned?

Pretty sure I've seen similar vent protrusions after a spawning before and in those cases it goes away on its own.

Aside from that I am not sure what could cause it, the main concern being the potential for an internal infection, or a symptom of being egg bound, but the truth is, I don't really know for sure.

Hi RS2000, this is a female koi. I was on vacation and did not seen her spawning. Maybe she is preparing to spawn i dont know. Water is currently 20C..

What does her abdomen feel like, soft, hard, soft with some hard bits or a mix of both?

I lost a koi this year who was egg bound, and her vent was not distended at all, so for that reason I couldn't say if it is a sign spawning is imminent, but distended vents is definitely a symptom seen after spawning.
