Thread: Bigger Lump!

    Bigger Lump!

Water still good, afected fish still 60cm+
What has changed since "Big lump" (https://www.koiforum.uk/koi-hospital/31058-lump.html) is the size of the lump.
Fish does not appear unduly distressed, though has stopped eating.
At least at this rate something significant is likely to happen soon perhaps?
Appears to be a phenomenon not encountered before?Lump2.jpg

    Thanks for the suggestion.
The lump has grown so quickly I'm leaning toward some kind of abscess at the moment.
Fish is not flushed elsewhere on body and it's not visibly distressed.

This is probably the exact type of thing it would be worth approaching Paula Reynolds for. Drop her an email with a photo and then follow up with a phone-call.

You'd assume there isn't much that can be done, but it would be worth knowing what the likely cause is.

Does it affect the gill opening and closing?

Internally I think the heart is at that location, with the Liver just behind it which would also fall within the swollen area. I think logically, what with the fish behaving normally, this would imply the issue is likely to be a tumour or something unrelated to the internal organs, otherwise you'd expect it to be dead by now.

I think this is the type of thing that we all dread happening as there really isn't much we can understand or do about it.

I am not a vet or trained in fish medicine at all - but - I had aKoi with a similar lump/swelling which I treated and healed by anethetizing with clove oil, opening up and removing the cyst with a swiss army knife, stitched up and treated with Iodine and wound sealer, it lived another 7 years.

Not to be recommended, just saying it may be a cyst, but could be worse.

I'll try to find the pictures!

    Fair play.

I get nervous just handling them to get a good scrape. Chopping them up and rebuilding them with knitting needles is on another level!

i recently watched youtube video showing veterinary treatment of a very similar lump.
with ultrasonic scan of the lump which was found to be a build up of liquid, and removal with a canula and syringe then antibiotic treatments.

Thanks for the input. All food for thought.
Biggest problem right now is that I'm currently away, hence delay in responding, and won't be back for another week.
