Inherited sickly koi and dirty pond
Hi,
I have recently inherited a pond with about 16 koi fish, the previous owner (brother) moved out and it seems he stopped caring.
Basically it was really really in a bad state, dirty water, dirty filter, no air pump, no skimmer etc. And two of the koi had skin issues. One had like yellow lumps and the other had white marks. The water was so dirty you couldn’t even see the fish properly.
Since I have taken over I have started to sort it out. I got the whole pond and filters cleaned out totally with new sponges. So it’s like a new pond set up, I have ordered a test kit for me to test the water, however I have attached pictures of the two fish with issues. I know without knowing the readings it’s hard to tell but I was hoping someone might have a idea of what’s wrong, and could possibly point me in the right direction.
since cleaning the pond, it seems the koi with the yellow markins has got a bit better, but I will monitor.

the first koi looks, to me, as though it may be carp pox. the second possibly has hikui but i stand to be corrected. if you google both of these or do a search on here you should be able to get more information.

Hi,
The one with the white marks is doing better, so I’m guessing it was koi pox..
All the koi seem to be a lot better with the clean water, plus u can actually see what’s going on. The next thing on the list to fix is the UV filter.. it look as thou it’s not been used in a long time.
