It's easy to give up when times are hard, but no success story came easy. Whilst you may have rough times it's how you pick yourself and recover and improve. You are on the cusp of a good upgrade with your plans which will make life easier and more enjoyable with your pond! Microscope sounds good to me, not an expert but I am sure its only up to 100x you need.

Aye ya right there matey . Man up and get o with it. Qt then bd and plumbing on main pond. The scope is only 30 notes on ebay not be the best but if it helps find the little buggers rather than stress the fish going for a road trip should be right..

its best to test pH twice in the same day- once early in the morning, and once as the sun is going down. That will give you your low point and your high point. Testing pH is not a substitute for testing KH though. If I could only have one water test kit for my pond ever it would be KH

Sorry to read again that you have had a loss AJ, hopefully onward and upwards.
Most common scopes used for parasites will have 4, 10, 40 objectives with x10 and x20
I do most of my viewing at 4x10 and 10x10
I think that scope you have shared seems quite high powered. You maybe better with something lower power. To me having a good stage and light on the scope is important.
Shame your not more local AJ as I have a few Chags and karashigoi that you could have had
Chin up bud, onwards and upwards.

Ideal AJ, you may find 16 suits for you
I do most of my looking at 40 - 100
So your range will be 64 -160
People
Say you need 400 for costia but I have seen many say they can identify them as low as 100.
If you do find you want to get yourself a 10 then they will be available but likely cost more than you paid for the scope lol.

Cheers Mike couldnt not have a go for the money even if its 20 quid for a eye piece still be a cheap scope. Think it's one main thing we need but gets forgotten a lot by new keepers like

Does it have a mechanical stage? Looks like it doesn’t in the picture but hard to see without it being out of its box. If you have to move the stage manually it makes it very difficult to sweep a slide in a methodical way. It might also be lacking a condenser if it’s a very cheap scope.
If you find it’s not very good then go for an Apex Practitioner next time2016 new 6000 gallon pond

I do always recommend the apex practitioner and is also what I use. I have also advised the benifits of a good stage and light.
Agree condenser and iris are helpful but not essential.
I’m sure the scope AJ has brought is capable but with a decent mechanical stage life would be a whole lot easier.

Help please
Looking at the scope it has just a corse focus.
No fine focus or stage controls
I have seen people post on here with photos of parasites from far more basic scopes than the one you brought.
The more advanced scopes just make life much easier. I would have a go scanning some scrapes on the pond wall to give you some confidence in the scope before you net a fish and scrape.

Looking at it I don't think the stage is mechanical, but could be wrong. That said, give it a go, may take a bit more effort without a mechanical stage but no saying you won't manage it.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say.
whoops....

Do fish grieve? Or are they put off by losing the safety of the 3 big ones? Pond temp at 10.2 ph7. 5 kh 2 (close eye on it) remaining fish don't want to eat still.
Got pH up to 7 on the 20th then 7. 5 a couple days later. Worried am missing some thing here like. Waiting on the scope to turn up hopefully tomorrow. Haven't seen any flashing rubbing out like that. They are hovering in mid water all bunched up and they are like sheep at the minute 1 swims they all swim.. The ochiba used to push the chag out the way at meal times was never scared they don't dart away when I go near in fact they don't even react?

Because you have lost the biggest fish you might find it takes the smaller ones time to get the confidence to feed again. You may find that it was the big ones giving the smaller ones the confidence and now they have gone the smaller ones are waiting for one of the others to start feeding but it will come with time. You may find they eat sinking food, but then they won't come back up again.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
