Poorly Fish please help me identify the Issue

    Hi Guys

I noticed one of my Fish had some action on its gill so I have pulled him out of the pond to have a look does anyone know what the issues is. Water Perameters 0 amonia 0 Nitrite and 20 -30 ppm nitrate (still lower than what comes out of my tap here )

he is hanging about at the bottom of the pond not swimming much but it is winter so i didn't think to much of it until i saw the gill

For now I have treated with some topical Gentian Violet antibacterial (lincoln purple spray) and then sealed it for now with propolis

    All help appreciated

    thanks
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

Have you done any scrapes to check for parasites? Usually sores like these are caused by poor health and often the result of a underlying issue such as a parasitic infection taking advantage of a weakened immune system.

That would be my plan of action, get a scrape and go from there. In the mean time what you're doing is also what I would do which is clean the wound and apply some anti bacteria treatment then seal the wound and avoid the products going into the fishes gills and eyes. Hopefully someone else with more experience will be able to assist you further on here but ideally you want a scrape asap.

Fully agree with the above, the only thing i would add is once you have the scrape result and treated accordingly some heat would help healing.
