I was up again a couple of times overnight to check on the fish. Switched off the hose this morning at about seven, as by calculations the entire volume of the pond should have been changed. It took thirty six hours.
Switched off the U.V. and added 100 ml of Malachite. Opened the bottle of Formalin and found that it contained crystals .

Really sorry to hear this g mac after all of your hard efforts to try and sort this, life can be an absolute
bummer at times can't it it's horrible when you loose an old friend.
Do you think you're problems started when you added the new fish ? and was the bottle of formalin that had
the crystals in sold to you by your dealer ……..hope not, have you been in touch with him.
Keep us updated and hope things improve for you really soon

The problem did start about a week after introducing the new fish. So maybe it was the cause or possibly just coincidental, just don't know. It did coincide with some hot days/cold nights. Maybe the filters weren't active enough to cope with the extra food that the fish suddenly wanted.
The dealer couriered me a replacement bottle of Formalin from a different batch, so I have since started treating with that. I didn't add any of the crystallised one.
As of this morning, I have three fish on their backs but they every so often, right themselves and swim about a bit before rolling back over.
Not sure that there is anything else that I can do now. The Formalin and Malachite are in there, another dose to add in a day or so.
Truly depressing, the pond is going to look so empty and even I get all this sorted, I'm not going to be able to re stock...............................and it's still leaking.

Keep positive Mac. I know it's hard.
Have you got a qt tank mate. Or a vat.
Maybe heat and salt will help. And seperate from the pond lol. Sounds like the pond might need emptying and deep cleaning with say a bleach. Or caustic sauda. And starting again. With no fish in.
I know that's drastic. But it sometimes works.
I had the black algi. Attack. And it killed a few of my fish.
It burns them. You throw it on grass on the lawn and it kills it over night.
That's what I had to do. I emptied the pond with the fish. And over a 48 hour period.
Pressure washed the pond down. And scrubbed with caustic sauda. Filters as well. Fiiled the pond up twice. To flush it out.
Then the 3rd fill up. I then added the fish.
Using ST.
It worked. Luckily I was nt on a water meter.
I know this might not help you mate.
But your pissing against the wind. Here.
Just a thought for you to consider lol.
Fingers toes and everything crossed for you.
Hope you sort it.

Thanks Fred.
I haven't got quarantine facilities these days.
I have to admit that I suppose I had become complacent over the last few years. A change in financial and health circumstances twenty five years back, meant that I had to stop spending. So, I hadn't purchased any fish for years. I introduced a few about 15 years back, after my dad died and mum needed to shut down his pond. These were a bit of a motley collection but I had them, so that my mum could still get to see them. I know it sounds mercenary but I wouldn't be quite so upset if they went, as they are not what you would call good fish but of course they have just shrugged this off and are feeding and looking healthy.
Really for the last twenty years or so, the pond has pretty much looked after its self. I've had no problems, with just the occasional lose, presumably through old age, some of the fish were well over thirty years old.
Really appreciate the tips and advice. I'm not really sure what to do at the moment. Given that the pond has also sprung a leak in the last few weeks, it may be that I have to call it a day with koi keeping. Financially I can't be redoing the pond and restocking, also I'm not healthy/strong enough to be wrestling a new liner in to the hole and redoing all the brickwork copings etc.
Right, I need a caffeine shot and some time for contemplation.

That's a shame to read g mac, but I can quite understand where you are coming from .
I think a lot of people get caught out financially, especially with the cost of treating a pond when
things go ti up.....you still have plenty of oxygen going into the pond don't you ?.
I can only wish you well for what ever you decide and keep us informed as to how things go

Can you afford a paddling pool? Or better still a frame pool?
You will also need to buy some silicone.
And a piece or liner. A foot squared should be usable depending on the hole size.
If you buy Gold Label, don't try to use it underwater.
Stop feeding.
If your water is good, use that to fill the pool.
If not, use tap water. Dechlorinated. Try to match the temperature and pH
Move the fish to the vat. Do not feed them.
Set up a trickle in... over flow out or hook up your filters.
I'd you hook up your filters, be very careful in case it is they that are leaking.
Then fill your pond. No need to dechlorinate.
Wait.
Note the water level every x hours.
When it stops going down then it's reached the bottom of the leak.
Locate leak.
IMPORTANT- Pump at least another 6 inches out.
Clean around the leak. Dry area thoroughly.
Make a ROUND patch slight larger than the leak. Put silicone around leak and around edges of the patch. Gently push together but do not squash it down.
Repeat using a piece of liner which is twice as big as the one you used above. Then do the same with the silicone.
Then squeeze a small lump of silicone onto a brick or anything.
Wait.
Ideally 24 hours but you can tell if the silicone has cured by touching the lump you left on the brick
Once you are happy it's cured, wait a bit longer.
Refil pond. Transfer fish. High Five

Thanks for taking the time to offer your advice Andre, appreciate it.
Once the fish stop dying and the rest look healthier, I'll give it a go.
A large Bekko died yesterday and a Doitsu Kujaku. I'm rapidly running out of space to bury all of these fish

I hate to say this but...……...I would be inclined to put the dead fish in your dustbin, only because a fox will more than
likely dig them up... you said the formalin had crystallised what about the malachite ? that was all in date I hope.
It seems funny that things started to go wrong after the introduction of you're new fish, and my bet would be that the new fish
have more than likely bought parasites in to your pond did you buy the fish and treatment from the same place ?.

I had considered putting them in the bin Anne, trouble is our bin isn't due for collection again for best part of two weeks.
I didn't use the crystallised Formalin, dealer sent me a replacement from a different batch. Malachite was fresh.
Think another Kohaku will be dead before the end of the day
Pond is looking so empty now and I'm finding it so depressing looking at it at the moment.

I'm at a loss as to what to suggest next, apart from water changes and plenty of oxygen.....have the new fish been scraped again ?
Its a pity there is nobody near to you that could come round in the flesh, so to speak and have a chat about your pond and the
problems you are having at the moment. Nothing like a chat and a cuppa to put the world to rights .
Ps.....I've wrapped fish in well sealed carrier bags before and they haven't smelt ( well not to much anyway )

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
