Heron and sick fish disaster
Hi,
Yesterday christmas started with a heron flapping down the garden.
3 fish appear to have gone
The 4 larger ones all seemed fine, though one appears to have scrapes.
However, today i noticed today that one of fish appeared dead on the bottom on its side. I tried to net it out and it swam fine...put it in a tub for quick look and it seemed unharmed. Put it back and it was flat on its side in minutes again.
The water is very cold to my hands..but no ice.
I am waiting on a water test for quality and a thermometer for temp which i will do today.
I am not feeding. The uv light has been off by mistake. The filter and airstone is on.
I put some virkon in to help the scraped fish.
A cover is on the way.
Is this most likely shock, shock and cold? Any suggestions on how to help this fella?

Could be many reasons, UVC off wouldn’t be one, mine are off at the moment. Ten years ago I bought a nice Sanke in September from Shirley Aquatics, all their Koi at the time was inside, a couple of months later it would just lay on the bottom on its side, suffered with it all winter, had to bring it under cover to get the temperature up. From then on never bought a koi late in the year, felt it was to late in the year for it to acclimatise, doesn’t matter now as I’m heated.
Still have the Sanke.

Was they swimming before the attack.
If so. More then likely the attack has done this.
Do you have a qt. Or grow on. Heat and salt may help the fish. In a qt.
Could be shock. You need a cover on. For temps. Plus it will keep the heron of them.
It will be back. Especially if it has already had a feed out your pond. Sorry to hear of this lol

The fish on its side - swim bladder problem?
I have one right now with same issue. I read to feed them frozen peas - but it's the wrong time of year for that.
Just a thought.
