    Hi

I spoke to Paula and she recommended a course of antibiotic injections.

Baytril was the one that she specified.

Any ideas on how to get it and how much it should cost?

I would check with Paula the strength and number of injections that you need, and whether it is only available on prescription - if so, she may be able to help you persuade your local vet to prescribe.

    Hi Anne

Another one has developed a reddish tinge to its skin on both sides towards the back of the fish

I’ve taken a scrape and had a look and I could see some tiny little dots moving around which to my uneducated eye look like Costia so I’ve taken it out and put it in a 200L quarantine tank that I have set up and I’ve just treated it with 10ml of pp

Do you think I should treat the whole pond or just keep an eye on everyone?

Gelkoi, if you go on the next thread down, '' Koi health and medication '' at the top of that thread there's a sticky at
the top of the page with parasite videos on, have a look on there to compare what you have seen on your scrape, or
even youtube is another good place to look and for treatment recommendations. If it was me I would treat all of the pond,
if ones got it then the others probably have but you do need to scrape more than one fish to be sure.
Hopefully somebody who knows what there talking about will be along soon but while your waiting have a look at
those videos, and goodluck with it all...…………….

    Thanks Anne

I treated the quarantine tank with 10ml of NT Labs permanganate earlier this evening and I just checked and the fish is okay but his front fins are a bit red

I’m keeping a close eye on the others in the pond and I’ll treat the quarantine tank again every other day for four treatments as it says on the bottle.

    Hi

If I need to treat the whole pond (11095 litres) what is the best pp to use?

Costia is a nasty parasite. It’s possible, but unusual, for it to affect only one fish - if that fish’s immune system is severely compromised Costia, if, as they usually are in small numbers, present, can ‘flock’ to the weakened fish and finish it off. This happened to one of my fish (long story), the others were unaffected but I still treated the pond out of an abundance of caution. If you are sure that the fish you have in QT has Costia - Anne’s links should enable you to tell - I wouldn’t wait and see with the pond, I would scrape/scope at least two other fish and, if Costia is found, treat ASAP.

According Top quality Japanese Koi Carp at sensible prices Costia usually affects debilitated fish thus is often a ‘secondary’ parasite - this is certainly what affected my fish, still, as said, I would scrape at least two pond fish to rule in or out Costia.

    According to Duncans Griffiths book.
For costia number one treatment F-M-G
    2nd PP
    3rd CT.
As said I would scrape a few more fish.
But I believe if it is on one fish it is in the pond.
And I would go FMG. If you have such as Rudd orfs tench. Starlets. Be careful. I took a chance and left my orfs Rudd and tench in the pond.
Could nt catch them. I had whitespot.
    To deep. To catch
They are ok though. Good luck with it mate

I agree Anne. I would do the same. Treat all the pond.

    Okay

Another fish is not feeding this morning although she looks fine

I have some Malachite and Formalin Answer that I’ll treat the whole pond with this evening.

I’ll also scrape a couple more and see what I can see

I’ve just taken a scrape from my matsuba and I definitely found a fluke

It’s the first time I’ve seen something that I’m 100% sure of

    What’s the best treatment?

    Still malachite and formalin?

which fluke is it gill or skin fluke. I used CT first Then fluke M or Fluke P. I used the CT to take the mucus off then Fluke M for 7 days. with UV off. Then did fluke M again to kill the eggs, after 7 days . I think fluke P is stronger. if you have nt got a lot of flukes. I would go for the costia first. with fmg. then give them a scrape and see if that has got rid of the flukes, if not then do a good water change and use fluke p.

    Hi

I treated the pond yesterday with malachite and formalin answer and everybody except the matsuba was up and feeding.

I have loads of air going in

With regard to the fish that I quarantined and treated with pp, how long should I keep him in there for? I was planning to treat the tank every other day for 4 treatments and then see how he’s doing

With regard to the pond how long should the uv be switched off for after treating with malachite and formalin?

    Also what is CT?

Thanks for all of your help so far

I would scrape the fish in quarantine and see if clean. If it is parasite free put it back in the pond. If it was costia on the fish your treating the pond anyway. For costia. With fmg. That's just my take on it.
