Best of luck Tom, seems like they are either shocked by the treatment or you have another parasite going on maybe. Dave has some good vids on magnification for costia and tric and what to look for https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=34ltDFM8ruo

Two fish flashing a lotÖ..first treatmentÖ.

Found a couple of dead but also found a dozen or so alive Trichodina so looks like thatís what I am battling.

FMG has turned up. Donít know how long to leave it though. One I will ponder through the week no doubt.

Those Tric are a bugger to find but very clear when you have.

Going on Johns advice I nipped over to Peng Koi in Stoke and picked up some PP and Hydrogen Peroxide and after a 20% water change Iíve just finished adding it. After carefully calculating the dose 4 or 5 times. Really hoping this will put me back on track.

Iíve got some extra filter booster bugs coming as an insurance policy too.

Seemed to go alright. I neutralised at 2hrs 40 mins as a Hi Showa was really struggling but hoping with two follow up treatments that parasites will be seen off

Will do. Relieved so far, hoping the hi showa will recover quickly.

I wouldnít go as far as to say they look perky, but the symptoms are orders of magnitude better in terms of clamped fins and pink skin flush.

Howís your infestation going? PP was nerve wrackingÖ

That sounds really promising. Iím not looking forward to my first PP experience! Sounds like your on top of it.

John kindly popped over and had a good look, but said all looking good. no flashing for a week, I think maybe a small bit of fluke going on, Will see how the next week goes and whether they deal with it. I am topping off via a 3 stage off eBay a lot so going to check for chlorine as I have noticed flashing after water changes. Looking forward to summer actually kicking in

Back to looking how they did yesterday before treatment by and large. This is very frustrating.

Iím going to leave them today and then scrape again tomorrow before the second PP treatment.

Nice to meet you yesterday James, to check for chlorine use dpd4 tablets as per Manky sanky.
Put a sample of water in a spare test tube then drop in a tablet, you can crush it a bit but look down through the top of the tube and not the side and if you see pink you have chlorine,if clear your good to go.

You can get the tablets on Ebay.

    Thanks for the plug John

DPD1 tablets only test for Free Chlorine so you need DPD4 tablets to test for Total Chlorine which as the name suggests is the total of Free Chlorine plus Chloramine.

The test method I put on my website several years ago will detect trace levels of chlorine or chloramine from a purifier that is nearing the end of its life, long before they become high enough to affect koi or it can be used to test a sample from a pond to verify that manual dechlorination has been effective and it's most accurate if you do it exactly as I describe:

Well overall Iíve a mild improvement of a couple of fish, a massive improvement in a couple more and two that donít look very healthy at all.

PP again tomorrow for second dose and final dose on Thursday. Then I will scrape at the weekend and pray no parasites!!!

I spent the whole of Apr and early May battling with parasites - especially flukes - really really takes the fun out of this hobby.

I still count myself lucky as by June the buggers got eliminated and I could feed feed feed .

Until of course I decided to add another new fish!!

Cuttlebrook (where my fish are from) have just returned my call. Seemed very knowledgable, as you would expect.

Recommended doing nothing for a couple of days other than scraping and if I need to treat, to use FMG. Never uses PP and recommends against it, kills more fish than anything.

But of a quandary now and has really sapped my enjoyment. Think I will follow the breeders advice and scrape tomorrow and if needed, FMG on Wednesday.

My Hi Utsuri and Hi Showa both look very close to death and my large Showa is clamping on the bottom again. Thatís a lot of money to be worrying about dying all the time.

The Hi Utsuri and Hi Showa are both listless and keep floating tail up like theyíve a swim bladder issue (but donít think they have, think itís just a symptom of their listlessness). Iíd be amazed if either is alive by the weekend.

Sorry to hear this Tom what a nightmare, I donít want to add more layers of complication and a complete amateur but have been following some Ricky koi wholesale talks about salt through tough times. I think but would have to double check 0.03% background level can help ease them. Iím sure it was this one ill double check in a bit https://youtu.be/8341a_2WbBw?si=n89F5oCj8QXTKW4A

Hey Tom, what are you treating for is it tric and flukes.
Pp will rid the tric did you use the correct dose? When I have used pp it didnt really bother them.

You say your hi utsuri and showa are floating tail up so is that head down and tail up?
I am sure that is a sign of costia which is fmg dosage.

I remember when I had them that is what the koi were doing and they looked shit but pulled through.
    John
