Question Is this carp pox or something else?

    Hello folks,

Looking for some opinions on whether what I am seeing on my Koi is carp pox or something else and how I proceed. I have a Shiro purchased last season which after recently adding to the pond it developed some lumps etc, the dealer I purchased from visited the pond and said it was carp pox. The shiro has had the lumps ever since.

Now I have noticed in the last few days my Hi Utsuri and Ki Utsuri have started to get white lumps on the edges of the fins and a few spots on the body, after much reading about carp pox it does look like what is described as "white candle wax" but I definitely would like some further opinions. The fish seem perfectly active and "normal" and I'm not seeing any flashing or strange behavior. What makes me skeptical is reading some articles which state carp pox isn't very common and some say it is not contagious, which makes me doubt it is carp pox?

The pond is 2500gal with 8 fish, all fish came from the same dealer and added last year in stages, the pond is not heated but covered and currently at 12'C.

    Water tests:
    Ammonia: 0.01mg/l
    Nitrite: 0.049mg/l
    KH: 14
    PH: 8.2
(Yes I have very hard water!)

Thanks folks, let the spring fun begin!

It does look like carp pox to me but wouldn't want to say 100% incase it is something else. I found that when I had carp pox on some of my fish, it seemed to happen on a lot of them whereas when it hasn't come up none of them get it. I don't know if it is contagious or not but it does seem to bring it out on the others when present.

Thanks for the reply Samp. Any ideas what else it could be possibly that I could look up? I’ve looked at all kinds of fungus online but none of them look like this, everything points towards carp pox but just wish there was a way to know for sure!

It’s weird it’s just my 3 Utsuri’s that have it and not my other varieties, maybe just a coincidence!

Pretty much identical to how some of mine look at the moment, which isn't too bad as I've seen it much worse in previous years, but yeah defo carp pox and nothing to worry about.

Might find it takes as long as to July to fully clear, but it will go on its own.

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate all the feedback and glad it's not something else more serious. I'll certainly keep an eye on it and hope the warmer temps arrive soon!!
