White lumps and lesions on koi
Hi, new on here. After some help in identifying what this is. Started off as very small white lumps that are progressing and eating away at the flesh. Lost one koi already and now it seems to be spreading to the others. I have never seen anything like it so any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to loose any more.

Do you have water parameters and have you done a scrape?

Trace ammonia and nitrite. Just transferred fish to new pond so filter is still catching up but nothing high. Done a scrape and found a few flukes that I have treated for yesterday but far from an infestation. Been trying to get rid of them most of the season with not much luck. Treatments just seek to knock them back but never get rid of them.

I wonder if they are cysts, a parasite created one?

Getting worse now and are eating away at the fish. Tried cleaning the wounds but at the rate this is spreading I can’t see anything being alive by next week. Absolutely gutted…

You could try a call to Lincolnshire vets? I must admit I’m a bit of a loss, looks like cysts but you haven’t found any parasites on the fish? You could try a pm to a member here called Feline, I believe she is a vet although she may be away?

After looking up dermocystidium I’m almost certain it is this. Looks identical and matches up with what I’m seeing. The flukes and the fish knocking themselves has made the problem a lot worse. Seem to have knocked the flukes out so fingers crossed they can recover. Pulled all koi out with open wounds yesterday cleaned and sealed up and have upped salt levels as well as adding acraflavin and using oxytetracycline mixed in with food. They look a hell of a lot better today so hopefully I have reacted soon enough to save the rest.
Thanks a lot for that

Update. Passed on to pretty much every fish in the pond and they went downhill very fast. Decided to pull out everything that was showing signs and euthanise with hope of saving the remaining 6 fish. Looked happy and healthy up until this evening when the rest of them are starting to show up with the white lumps. Absolutely gutted…

Yeah I did. Basically nothing I could have done apart from isolate the fish with symptoms. Went through them so fast though. The fact you can’t treat them just makes it even worse as you’re pretty much helpless. The bizarre thing is that nothing was added for some time and nothing obvious showing. Not even sure if it can just go on its own if the fish recover or if it can come back out again..

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
