    Flukes and Tric

Found both of these on a scrape on top of the head, the fluke looked like mucus walking like a leach with two suckers,is that a body leach?
    Never had these before.
Also found Tric on the same scrape.

So Tric you use PP and presume fluke you use Flukesolve or is there something that will kill both?
Need to get something ordered can anyone help please?

    Hi John .

Ive always had success with flukes , using PP . Normally using 2 doses , 7 days apart .

For more stubborn cases , Lernex seems to do well . Never used it myself , but its been reccomended a few times .

Hope you get it sorted , mate !

Thanks Colin,I have some pp here so was thinking of doing it now for the 4 hrs, have used it before yrs ago but wasnt sure if it did the flukes.
Should I go ahead with the pp?
    For 3000 gals think I need 20.5gms.

I found Trich & Flukes on my last scrapes but doing some more any day so I will PP as well. Do people pre mix up some ST to Neutralise the PP if they don't have HP like me?

    Thats right , John . 1.5g per 1000 liters or 220 gallons .

Use plenty of air , and neutralise with the same amount Sodium Thiosulphate after 4 hours .

Keep an eye on the fish , if theyre gasping for air or getting too stressed , you can neutralise it straight away . Never had that issue , myself , though .

I tend to isolate my filters and dont run the PP through them . Others may say different .

20.5 gms of pp in for nearly an hr now only bothering the small ones who are shoaling round the edge of the pond.
Few twitching which I hope killing the Trig but otherwise ok.
I have some s/t mixed on stand by and some h/p which if I remember right cleared all the pond very well but cant remember how much h/p I put in.

Opened the bypass on the drum so it didnt wash but will close it for the last two hours to give the mesh a go.

I didnít neutralise the last time I used PP, just let It clear naturally and I would definitely let it go through the filters as the parasites will be in there as wellFlukes and Tric

Looking good , John . Just keep an eye on the colour . Ideally , you want it to maintain a tinge of purple for the full four hours . If it turns brown too quickly , you can top up with an additional quarter dose . Just depends on how much waste ect in the pond (organic load ) . The more you have , the quicker the PP will neutralise and turn brown .

Advice varies on this . The downside , especially at this time of year , is it will knock your filters back .

Some suggest letting it pass through the filters for the last hour . Matter of finding what works best for you , really .

Thanks all, going through everything now another 1/2 hr and done.
Did start to go brownish so added another 6 gms and all good, pumps going flat out as I dont have air in the main pond but koi seem fine in fact they are a bit horney males chasing females so I expect it's the change in water.

Been enjoying a few beers by the pond in the sunshine then Mrs said arnt you doing any gardening today, reply was NO got to keep en eye on the koi.

    Good luck John.

PP is supposedly the best thing to wipe out Trich, but I'd be surprised if it even puts a debt into the fluke population if they do indeed have flukes.

Flukes don't have the suckers you refer to, so if they didn't have hooks at one end that was possibly something else that maybe the PP can deal with.

    If not then flukesolve.
Never seen flukes before but these were leech like in the mucus and moving but you couldn't see them till they move.

Koi seem ok this morning but the water is crap all brown,so doing a big water change is that the way to go?

Have to do some more scrapes to see what's going on.

Did you neutralise the PP John?

The brown will clear in a couple of days, it’s just where you’ve neutralised the PP

PP really doesn’t kill flukes at all. It’s the best treatment for trich though unless you have sturgeon.
My protocol if I had both would be:

Thoroughly clean the filters and purge BDs
PP at 1.5 ppm for 4 hrs, topping up during as required , filters off for first 1-2 hrs then on for the last 2 hours
Neutralise with ST (don’t worry about the brown later, it will clear in a couple of days anyway)

5 days later rescrape to check the trich are gone, if not repeat above.

    Do a 20% water change.

If flukes present then treat with either flubendazole, praziquantel or both (or a commercial mix such as Lernex).
If it was body flukes rescrape after 1 and 2 weeks to check they are gone.
If Gill flukes I would repeat 3 times 5-7 days apart depending on temperature, then rescrape a week after last treatment.

I think the question you have with the things you saw is are they actually flukes at all? A photo of one would be helpful.
Argulus are much bigger and visible to the naked eye so if you had to scrape to see them may well not be them. Some people have actually had argulus this year which is unusual as they had become pretty uncommon in the UK over the last few years.

Rather than starting my own thread, I am halfway through scraping and just done the 3rd fish. Found a few flukes but not many on the 2 fish with mucus, and my GR asagi which I had seen flick once or twice was crawling with the bloody things! never seen so many! So far no sign of trich but sure they are still about, just maybe in low numbers. Will be going through the motions with Ct then Fluke S followed by Fluke M 5 days later. All the flukes I have seen clearly have been body flukes so hopefully no gill flukes present but will do the double dose anyway to be sure. Unless my next two fish show up with trich I will hold back on the PP for now.

Seems never ending doesn't it Couldn't believe the number of flukes on one of mine a few weeks back and that was a fish that never flicked and was up, about and feeding
