Random Question
We use FMG so the formalin reduces the mucus layer to allow the malachite green to get to the parasite, Alparex uses Acriflavine to do the formalin job presumably. Has anyone used Chloramine T with Malachite Green and the same principal?

No, that’s not why some of the active ingredients are in the treatments. Stripping mucus is generally an unwanted side effect of treatments, because sick fish with parasites often don’t have a fully intact protective mucus coat left.

So why is the formalin used? Presumably being formaldehyde it’s for its poisonous quality? Or is the malachite doing something to allow the formalin to act?

It is a treatment for the parasites. Neither formalin or MG would work particularly well on their own, with the exception of fungal problems where MG is enough.

So it’s more the chemical combination with each other rather than the chemicals singularly interacting on the parasite in combination (if that makes sense?)

Thanks, that’s interesting. Should’ve paid more attention to chemistry at school I think
