Bulge on side and possible heron peck
Hi all, One of my Koi has developed a bulge on its lower left side and it is showing redness underneath the scales that are now starting to stick out, from a google I'm wondering if it could be dropsy?
I think he may have had a heron peck on his top as there was a black dot that has now turned to what looks like a scar but I just cannot get a good photo.
Some photos below of the bulge. I've ordered a water test kit as I know this will be one of the questions asked.
We've only had him about 8-10 months, all the other fish are fine as far as I can tell.

Appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Looks like a bacterial infection - very common in the spring as temps warm up and the bacteria gets active again and the koi's immune system is still catching up. Salt bath every few days is probably going to be a good starting point. This video is an example of the level of care required - I'm sure someone on here will know more about "jabs" and treatments

Thanks, it does look quite similar, my pond is not heated which I assume doesn't help.
I will search but if anyone can point me to how to perform the salt bath, how long for etc that would be helpful.

20g per litre 2% - add air - watch fish - max 10 mins per fish - repeat every few days with fresh mix each time

Thanks, much appreciated.
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
