    White blobs on new addition.

This fish was collected from the dealer on Thursday afternoon and introduced to my pond. Today I noticed something on its nose so I decided to take a closer look. It has some white marks on its nose and a small one on its back near the dorsal fin. It also has a similar but pinkish one on its side. I am not sure but also a possible reddening on the base of the tail fin. I have taken photos of all these issues. I also took a pretty poor photo on Thursday evening of the fish swimming around and when I take a closer look now, the marks on its nose possibly show.

I have emailed these pictures to the dealer. My concern is for the fish but also for the rest of my otherwise healthy looking fish.

My pond was built last year and is around 1400 gallons and heated. Over winter I have had 4 fish in the pond, I added two more two weeks ago and all seem healthy, hungry and quite tame. This last fish brings my total up to 7 fish from 6" to around 13".

    pH8.5 (stable)
    Ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0
Nitrate 25 (same as tap water)
    Temperature 15.5c

The temperature was originally 14.5c and then raised to 19c two weeks ago to bring it in line with the dealer I bought the new sanke from and then gradually dropped it down to 13c as the Asagi was from an unheated pond. The new Asagi was floated for a few hours before being introduced and then over the last couple of days I have brought the temperature back up and is currently at 15.5c

That looks like koi pox. The only doubt is picture 3 the pinkish one. However Koi Pox can take on the pinkish colour. Have you scraped just to be on the safe side?

The tail fin is inflamed with damage to the filaments at the end. This could be the beginnings of bacterial tail rot. You need to do full water tests, then mucus scrapes from several fish. The fish might need to go into a QT with heat and salt and possibly antibacterial treatments too.

I have a mind to return the fish as it clearly wasnt right when collected 36 hours before the photos were taken.

Is it worth going straight for the anti bac? I have an aquarium with heater and air pump and some acriflavine.

If so would I add salt and acriflavin?

Heard back this morning. They agreed they should have noticed these problems (damaged tail fin and koi pox) before we collected and told me the fish should recover in a couple of weeks without any treatment. Also agreed a credit to the value of the fish as a gesture which I thought was pretty decent.

Can't argue with that mate.. Things happen it's how they respond and fix said problem that matters. And looks like new forest have sorted it good to know

A few weeks on and the koi pox has gone. The redness in the tail has also gone but the damage has not grown back yet. The fish is active and seems hungry and joins all the others rushing over at feeding time. Overall his behavior seems normal. I noticed a blister right on the tip of his nose which was gone by the time I had netted it but treated it anyway with iodine, powder and sealer. However, I have noticed that he spits pellets. He will spit several pellets before he eats one and keeps it down, even if I soak them and sink them. He seems to spit any he takes in mid water and only seems to keep them in when they are on the bottom. He also eats meal worms from the surface without spitting. Is he just a fussy eater or might there be something else to worry about.

Water is at 17c and feeding growth pellets and vitality pellets. Both 6mm

    Hi

No expert, but believe spitting pellets out can be a sign of either flukes or gill flukes or both - can you do a scrape - are other fish flashing - could be a sign he came with more that just the koi pox and fin damage?

    White blobs on new addition.

I received my apex practitioner today and did a scrape of the Asagi. It’s my first attempt so can’t say I’m an expert yet. I used a credit card and did a gentle scrape from just inside the gill cover as far as the tail down one side and got enough mucus to cover the finger nail sized recess on a glass slide and covered it with a cover slip.

I’ve spent a good time looking at the sample at x40 and x100 and could find nothing moving or anything that looks to me like a fluke.

The only thing that looks “organic” is in this photo. I could only find one. Excuse the poor photography as I dont have an attachment so had to use my iPhone camera. I’ve cropped the picture but this was taken at x400. Navicula diatom maybe?

No flashing or flicking, just occasionally spitting food and it only seems to be the Asagi doing it, the rest all seem to be behaving normally.
