    Kois body looks swollen

Hi All. Looking for advice on my koi whi h I noticed this morning.
Its hard to describe so I will post pictures.

Koi is fine in itself and I have not noticed any abnormal behaviour. Water has also been checked and no issues.
    Any ideas?

I take it we are talking about the area of raised scales and slight reddening. The first thing to do is a scrape as this may be caused by a parasite. If not parasites then we are looking at a bacterial ulcer. Are all your parameters ok ? This can often be the underlying cause of problems.

Yeah thats the area. Like you said its raised up slightly and is slightly red. There are also two smaller areas on the other side which are the same.
Water parameters are fine I checked them straight after I noticed it.

Not that I have seen no.
I did wonder if it could have been caused by fighting but the koi all seem calm and there is no strange behaviour.

Injuries don't tend to look like this. As you have checked the parameters, then the next step is to take a scrape. At this time of year you may be limited with the subsequent treatments you can use unless you have a heater. But first get a scrape then you can look at the options available.

Personally to me it looks like it has taken a bash. Either from flashing or jumping.

Do you have any objects in the pond? Could also be a hit on copings/capping

    Just my opinion.

Have you checked chlorine and kh as well.
At tap sauce and pond water.
The water companys are altering things in this pandemic lol. My kh altered from 13 drops to 7 drops. During this year. Always been 13 drops.
Also I agree the fish needs scraping lol.

I agree that this looks like the koi has scraped itself on something- can easily happen during the normal argy bargy that happens around feeding times, but also can be caused by something rough in or above the pond such as sharp coping stones, pome covers with wooden supports under them, hose clips on underwater pipes, planting baskets etc.etc.

If you can rule out anything in the pine that could have caused it, next do some mucus scrapes to look for parasites in case that’s what’s caused the fish to feel itchy and rub itself on something.

Most areas of mild damage like this will heal without intervention if the water quality is good. But low water temps can slow healing or prevent it entirely, so a heated quarantine tank environment is preferable if you can provide it.
