ICC instructions are printed on it- 25ml per 500 gallons, works better in 0.6% salt but not essential. Repeat every 2 days. That’s it
Turn off your UV as it’s definitely dye based.
Ive always found it to be mild on the fish and have never had any losses or even distress in any from it. Obviously depends on how ‘close to the edge’ individual fish are at the time. Keep your air full on.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Hi. I only seen one moving. But the one that I did see. Looked like costia. Good luck with the icc salt treatment. Never used it. Glad to hear your slowly recovering.

Thank you.
That's good news that it's inoffensive.
How quickly should I bring the salt up to 0.6%?
How many treatments have you needed to repeat every couple of days, Feline?
I'm kind of surprised that they're not all dead already with what I've heard about Costia. I think it came in on a fish on 25th July, and I saw absolutely loads on the slides, which might not be apparent to you guys with the YouTube compression. Hopefully they can hold on until it gets here. The big oldie is occasionally sitting on the bottom and I saw him clamp his fins yesterday.

I would take the salt up to 0.6 over 3 days myself. You could do it all in one go, but you might get bored dissolving that much salt all at once
Last time I used it I did 3 treatments. It did clear the costia, which FMG at ‘Duncan dose’ had not. Hope yours works well for you, defo not good for fish to go into winter with a heavy costia burden.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Yes, I’ve also used separate formaldehyde and malachite green within this time frame at the Duncan dose level and it’s clearly not shifted it.
I’m still looking for a salinity meter with convincing, consistent reviews. Seem to remember this is why I ended up with the refractometer.
I’ve decided to obviously get a quarantine tank so this debacle doesn’t happen again. I actually have a conservatory that I don’t use because it’s attached to the garage instead of the house. Think that would be a great place for one. Just need to find out what I need. What kind of price range are we talking for a typical quarantine set up?
Off to dissolve salt into very cold water...

A quarantine facility is the way to go and the conservatory sounds like an ideal spot for you. I've been putting one together myself over the last weeks but outdoors. Costs have added up and my budget was quickly exceeded, partly though, because I have spent a fair bit on timber, in an attempt to make it look pleasing rather than an eyesore, that would have meant an ear bending, every time my good wife looked at it.

In a costia situation a QT doesn’t actually help you much since you need to treat the whole pond, bowls, nets, socks and all the fish for it.
Obviously great to have when individual fish need some TLC though. Until your fish get so big that they won’t realistically fit in the QT even alone, anyway2016 new 6000 gallon pond

Be interested to know more about the ICC treatment such as what it treats and what it contains? Having got a sturgeon in the pond always useful to explore alternative treatments

Difficult to do with sturgeon, they are a tad temperamental, and obviously don’t know Duncan . His website doesn’t say if it’s sturgeon friendly either?

I think it is, but you should definitely check with him first before buying it. It doesn’t contain formalin that much I am sure of. It doesn’t make the pond the same shade of green as Alparex either, but it does go a kind of lurid green-blue so I think does contain MG, with something else.

The plot thickens....
So the ICC was posted on the Monday but didn't arrive until Friday, unfortunately. By then I had salted the pond ready to almost 0.6%.
A couple of days before the first dose on the Friday, the gin rin chagoi was swimming crazily. I mean CRAZILY. I had never seen anything like it, really fast and jumping, like its ass was on fire. It settled down.
Then today before I added a little more salt and the 2nd dose, it was doing it again. Swimming erratically and very fast. But then it started corkscrewing while it was swimming. It alternated between:
1. Swimming normally, slowly
2. Swimming around relatively quickly in a corkscrew motion in all levels of the pond
3. Swimming around rapidly and erratically on the surface in a circle on its side, chasing its tail
4. Lying on the bottom on its side, breathing very deeply
Now it's on its side on the bottom, breathing deeply and moving occasionally. Its gills are mucusy and a normal colour I think. If you disturb it, it starts corkscrewing around.
I realise looking back I saw the purachina swim around in a circle on the surface very briefly a couple of days before it died, which struck me as really odd at the time as I had never seen a fish chase its tail like a dog.
What on Earth is this? Could this be caused by the costia? Is it a seizure? Or is it some other kind of microorganism that causes corkscrew swimming? I am assuming the latter...

All the other fish are behaving normally. A couple of them occasionally flash, as they have been doing with the parasite. They otherwise swim around together and eat.
Oh, as for what's in the ICC, it appears to at least contain malachite judging by the bottle, and when you pour it in you can see a bright neon looking yellow/orange swirl like how acriflavin looks. Haven't smelled it.
I've messed it up though... in posting this, I've seen Feline's response about the UV and the second dose has been in for about 8hrs with the UV on the whole time. This isn't printed on the bottle and Duncan didn't mention this when telling me what to do. Will this have ruined it and I have to start again tomorrow?

I don’t know- I have assumed the UV should be off because it is a dye based liquid, and they are generally deactivated much quicker by UV. So you would have to ask Duncan.
I think when fish go crazy like that before they die it’s usually because they are suffocating- damaged gills from parasites clogged up with mucus. Provide as much air as you can.
When you’ve done a couple of ICC treatments you should, start to see a lot less mucus on the fish and possible some foam appear on the pond surface from DOCs. This is what normally happens for me anyway, although I’ve only ever had to use it a couple of times.2016 new 6000 gallon pond
