    KMnO4 (PP-potassium permanganate) when neutralised????

    Hi All,
like to ask everyones opinion on this please

If I were to remove my 2 sturgeon from my pool and place them in another tank , I then treat my main pool with PP, how long would I leave it to do its job before neutralizing it, and how soon after could I return the sturgeon back to main pool so as them not to be harmed by the PP.

    Is this an option?

    Regards

there have been some good threads about pp treatment recently so have a search.
Aim I believe is to keep water purple for 4 hours. Basically the speed of reaction depends on how much organic matter is present, it goes brown when it has reacted. If you want to make sure it's neutralised you could add hydrogen peroxide or similar at the end of treatment.

So 4 hrs is the time, then neutralize it. Has anyone then reintroduced sturgeon?.

'Scuse the rush, temporary parole from 22 week house arrest and it's difficult typing in my full NBC suit.

Keep redox at 450 mV for four hours.
Neutralise with dechlorinator or sodium thiosulphate.
Safe for all fish to be returned to pond immediately after neutralisation.

Is the sodium thiosulphate dosage the same as HP to clear afterwards.
    Thanks

No particular dose for either hydrogen peroxide or sodium thiosulphate. It all depends on the level after the treatment has finished. Add the full amount of dechlorinator or sodium thiosulphate that you would use to fully dechlorinate the whole pond. Add more if necessary if redox hasn't returned to normal level.

Must go - Sue is revving the car.
