    Hi mate,

What is the purpose of the bath / dip?

    hi Gaz,
Im just trying to keep my options open.
I have had lots of problems this year and have lost 12 fish, including some large beauties which despite my best efforts i couldnt save.
my pond is much better, but still have a couple of sick fish.
i had prazi resistent gill flukes flukes which flukesolve didnt shift, then 2 doses of fluke m (flubenderzole )which i hope/believe has solved the problem. i also found chilodonella on a dead fish 2 days after the 3rd treatment with FMG. but i think that has gone now too.
all scrapes clear for the past 2 and a half weeks.
the fish i lost at the beginning of the year where quite visibly poorly with white coationg, frayed fins and red streaks scepetimea.
then they where dying with no physical signs. now several have ulcers which are healing has the parasites have gone and the water changes are removing the salt and chemical residues..
my main concern is a large white gin rin sanke who has gone pinkish, and is not right, the scrapes on him are clear. but when i had a closer look at him his back was scraped along the entire length and he has a small ulcer near his eye. i treated the ulcer and his back.
a week later (yesterday)i gave him and another a salt and acriflavin bath.
but i just think im missing something. i dont want to treat the whole pond because the pond, filters and fish have been through enough treatments and scrapes dont show anything moving and havnt seen any flashing for a good 3 weeks.
    water parameters normal.
sorry, a long saga i know.
i think at the very beginning if i had used chloramine T to reduce the mucus coat i could have got away with using flubenderzole followed by a course of FMG and i would have lost a lot less fish.

If you want to use FMG,buy Malachite and Formalin in seperate bottles and mix it yourself .The premixed stuff doesnt work anywhere as well

im not sure if a couple of my fish might be suffering from bacterial gill disease.
i lost my best fish 3 weeks ago. still not sure why. he had ulcers, nothing found on scrapes. had trouble breathing. first salt bath appeared to fix him then second salt bath finished him off.
its just 3 weeks later i have another two poorly fish. trouble breathing. hanging at the top and nothing found on scrapes too. salt and acriflavin baths dont appear to help

also in the last week several of my fish have developed white spots. im not sure if its whitespot or carp pox.
    scrapes dont show anything ?

Hi, sorry to hear about your issues.

I had similar issues to you back end of last year that lasted a number of months and I lost a half my fish, I never did find the issue FMG Bath/Dip Dose ?

Iím not sure if FMG dips are recommended as I have not seen any recommendations On this. FMG Bath/Dip Dose ?

The gin run Sanke is likely pinked up with stress from all the treatments. If you are doing more water changes than normal to dilute the salt are you using enough dechlorination?

Have you checked your water parameters? Bio filter likely took a kicking with the treatments..

Have you checked the pond/filters for a possible bacterial issue/build up?

Sorry if I have missed you already answering any of the above

    Hi Mike83
thank you for all those points.very helpful. I am trying to think of every possibility
I am doing lots of water changes has you say. i am only using a single carbon filter cartridge on hosepipe for water inlet. i put a new on on begin of july but between 5000 and 10000 gal been through it. will put a new one on.
also will go through my filters again have a thorough clean. regular scrapes on fish dont show anything. and im sure my large white sanke is pink with stress. I just feel im missing something. especially with the ulcers and white spots.
this is my third year with my pond, never experienced anything like this. have had flukes last year and fluke solve sorted it. parasites the year before and formalin and malachite fixed it.
this year has been constant battle from beginning of april losing your best fish, taking scrapes, adding chemicals and just continuous slog and never getting on top of everything.
thanks will crack on with my filters and carbon cartridge hosepipe change.
    thankyou

I went through the same a couple of months ago. Flukes. Using ct. Then fluke m
Got rid of them easy enough. Kept scraping for about 2 weeks after flukes.
As in my experience. I have found there is always a follow up. Of another parasite.
Came from dog walk and theres a dead ogon. Scraped the dead ogon. Found costia. That's when the nightmare began.
Lost 2 more fish. Could nt get rid of costia.
So I overdosed the next treatment of fmg.
5000 gallon pond. I treat for 6500 gallons.
Twice. And that got rid of costia.
Then I noticed 3 fish hanging tail up.
Scraped them and a couple more nothing.
On scrapes. Like you I thought something is not right here.
I believe I unbalanced the pond chemistry
With all the treatments. So I decided to start again. New pond syndrome and all that. Drastic. But needs must.So I decided to vat all the fish.
And then treat the pond water with double dose of pp. Ran it all night. No fish in the pond. Through filters the lot. Emptied the pond. Dumped it all. And filled up again with fresh water. Using st. Dipped everyone of my fish in pp dip.
And put back into pond. 4 weeks ago. Also added 2.5ltr
Of gel filter start. 4 days ago the new pond syndrome has gone. And all my fish are back to normal.
If it had not worked I was thinking of jacking it all in. I love this hobby. But that's
    How close I came.
Last year I had the same problem. But with whitespot.
Hope you sort it mate. As it is gutting losing your fish.

at the beginning of the year it was perfect. all the fish where straight over to see me, eating out my hand. thats when you appreciate the hobby. then i started losing fish and my best fish absolute crackers then when i lost my favourite 2ft kujaku i cried.
its been a hard 4 month for me i just hope theres light at the end of the tunnel and next year will be normal.
    thanks

could i just ask anyones views on pp dip ?
i have several koi with small ulcers i was going to treat topically with ulcer kit.
but i have one koi with a not so good ulcerated rear. near to tail. he also has a bit of a vague coating. he is hanging near the top and has laboured breathing. i was thinking of giving him a quick pp dip for anything he might have but i havnt found and for his ulcers.
am just a bit concerned about his breathing. anyones views would be helpful before i dive in. I havnt dipped with pp before.
    thanks

If its struggling I would nt pp dip it lol.
When I did my fish in pp dips they where all
Breathing well and healthy. So could handle it. I would topical treat the ulcers lol.

    hi freddy
thats good to know. will do that. treat ulcers. not pp dip.
    he doesnt look well.
my other big ghost koi showing similar symptoms. just got a scrape off her. nothing on it. but found ulcer on her too i was not aware of.
am trying to think whats causing the ulcers. could it be high dose of salt in water for several months?
or the pond bombs? have put 10 of those in over 4 months.
or just the combination of acriflavin, prazi, flubenderzole, formalin, and malachite treatment over 4 months with high salt in between ?

    hi
my sick fish is now dead on the bottom. i got a scrape off him and i think i found costia.
is costia really hard to see ?
at x 400 small specs of pepper but moving independently ?
    would they cause ulcers ?
and how best to treat before i lose anymore ?
    thanks

    hi
    anyone ? costia ? i have formalin at 30% and malachite at 1.5 %
am thinking 3 doses 5 days apart
i have salt in my pond at 0.1%
and i also have goldfish, orfe and young koi (tosai)
would appreciate anyone's thoughts/recommendations before tomorrow morning.
    thanks

You really need to know what you are dealing with bud.Its no use guessing what you are treating. You shouldnt really treat with FMG if you have salt in the pond..PP dips are very dangerous to fish that are weakened..Your decription does sound like Costia. If it was me,I would compare your scrape with youtube videos to determine it is Costia, do a decent water change, get rid of as much salt as you can,and treat with FMG tonight when the sun goes down as daylight inactivates Malachite Day 4 do a small water change and repeat.Day 7 small water change and repeat .
