    Open mouth - not shutting

    Hello everyone,

It seems like my ogon canít quite close its mouth anymore. Few months ago I noticed that itís feeding funny and makes a lot of bubbles when feeding. Always had and still has a good appetite. I checked if anything stuck in the mouth or maybe an ulcer but couldnít see anything except it looked like a bit swollen. The problem is slowly progressing but it doesnít look like bothering the fish yet.
    Please advice.

    Thanks

Will wait to see if anyone had experienced this.

I lost a fish with mouth permanently locked open about 2 years ago. I tried everything to try and help it. Unfortunately it passed on.

Sorry to hear that Fred did you try sedating it and giving the jaw a gentle nudge .

Sorry that you lost your koi mate. Were there any signs building up to death? Or was it sudden?

Got my fish out today for a scrape, sedate it and used this as an opportunity to check if I could manually close the mouth. So I fiddled a bit with it and it seemed like I could close it (took a bit of pressure). Once back in the pond there was no difference, still open mouth.

Yes I sedated anne and tried moving the jaw. No joy. Then about a week later it passed away. Probably starvation.

I started and tried to move it. No joy. It had the lock jaw for about a month.

Probably starved. So if it happens again.
I will probably put it to sleep. After trying
To move it. It was about 8 months old.
